The Curry Goat in Jeunib

The Curry Goat in Jeunib

October 2020 · 2 min read · Aceh

I am not really often to eat curry goat (goat meat) The last time I enjoyed curry goat was one year ago at Lem Bakri Restaurant in Banda Aceh. However, few days ago when my friends and I went to Jeunib, we had lunch at a traditional restaurant there, at the heart of subdistrict's capital. Jeunib is a subdistrict in Bireuen Town.

Honestly, I don't really like to eat curry goat, but that time we don't have any other restaurant to visit. It's only this restaurant looks good and nice place. Then, we just entered the restaurant and ordered some menus. The main and famous menus here is curry goat. It looked so tasty and delicious, that's why I forced myself to try their best menu. I looked that almost all guests were enjoying curry goat on their tables.

My friends looked no problem with daging kambing. They were ordering some portions of curry goat happily. I told nothing to them that I am not really like curry goat. They just ordered it for me as well. Then, I decided to try curry goat at this restaurant.

Curry goat is a special dish in Aceh Province. Many celebrations using goat meat to cook curry. There are several moments in Aceh where goat curry cooked as main menu. The ceremonies are khitanan, turun mandi, and hari meungang. Khitanan is when a boy kid has to undergo circumcision. While turun mandi is a celebration for baby where he/she is for the first time take out of house. It's usually when his/her age 44 days. And hari meugang is a special day in Acehnese tradition to cook meat (may be goat meat, beef, or buffalo meat) a day before Ramadhan fasting day and Ied Mubarak holiday.

And aparently, not only Acehnese people like curry goat, but also Indian, Malysian, and even Jamaican. Eating curry goat is so popular in Jamaica, they did party of curry goat dish.wikipedia. I think that is why curry goat is so famous in many parts of world, all is related to party of celebration.

Finally I eat again curry goat. However, I must confess that the curry goat at this restaurant is so delicious. There is no a bit of goat smell.
