Book fair is a common thing here in Bangladesh. And it feels really great to visit a place where we can see and buy different kinds of books. A place where they solely showcase books is a wonderful thing for a bookworm like me.
The whole month of February is for the Book Fair. If you visit near the University of Dhaka Campus, you will get to see a huge book fair. But I was fortunate enough to attend another "mini book fair" during our Independence day in December.
16th December is our Independence day. There are different cultural programs and arrangements took place during this occasion. And this book fair was also a part of it.
I visited the University of Dhaka campus last 16th December and all of a sudden get to see this wonderful book fair, which I didn't know taking place.
The book fair was just the middle of the campus. There were nearly fifty bookstalls with lots of books. The theme of this fair was our 'Independence day'. So different stall and publisher companies were showcasing books related to our freedom fight and independence.
It was very early in the morning. That's why there is no crowd. But people here, really like to visit such places. Everyone tries to at least visit book fairs no matter if they buy or not. That's a very positive sign, I think.
As I have a toddler son, so kid's books related to our freedom fight and independence were my major attractions. Though most of the books were for grown-ups, not for a two and a half years old. But bought one picture book for him.
Also, the "yearly open-air recitation conference" was going to start in the evening. Though I couldn't wait that long to participate there. But I had the chance to be a participant there several times when I was a student of University of Dhaka.
I'm sharing two different Google map Screenshot to make it easy to understand where the place exactly is.
This is the place where I visited and where this mini book fair has taken place.
And, this is the actual place where you will get to visit the huge book fair which usually takes place every year during February.
Bookfair is very common here as I have said earlier. And the national bookfair which I was talking about is so popular that people around the world also visit this every year. It's not very long, another February is coming. And I hope to visit there again.
