China 28: Resume of a wonderful adventure through the Middle Kingdom [EN/GER]

After traveling of app. 4,000 kilometres by train through China, we now have to say goodbye to the Middle Kingdom.
We would like to review our wonderful journey with you and summarize our personal highlights here:

1. Beijing and the Great Wall

Where should one start best when reporting from Beijing? We have seen many impressive buildings in the days we were in Beijing.

Must-do are the following stations:

Forbidden City

Of course, a trip to the Great Wall should not be missed. Absolutely not.
We decided for a private tour where we hiked from an unrestored original section to Mutianyu (restored).
Walking on the wall and the landscapes were breath-taking.

2. Xi’an – City of the Silk Road

In Xi'an, we were just passing through to get to the holy Huashan Mountains. Even though we didn’t visit the famous Terracotta Army, the city has charmed us.

3. Plank in the Sky – Adventure feeling at its best

The Huashan Mountains is famous for its dangerous hiking trail. We liked the whole mountains because of its impressive landscapes.

4. Chengdu: Tea- and Panda-City

Chengdu was a personally must-do on our China trip. As tea enthusiasts, we were able to experience a tea ceremony here in the tea quarter and visit the sweet giant pandas and red pandas in the Breeding Centre.

5. The mystical avatar mountains

Impressive mountains reminding of the landscapes in Avatar - the Zhangjiajie National Park is a bit remote and difficult to reach, but absolutely worth a visit.

The mystical landscape has completely captivated us during the hikes - simply fabulous!

6. Idyllic Karst mountains

Last but not least: Yangshuo with its beautiful rock formations and the Yulong- and Li-river.

Of course, China was not always as idyllic as in these pictures. Anyone who has read our last posts definitely remembers that we were often annoyed by the crowds at the hotspots and the polluted cities.
But China is and will remain a special country that is still quite undiscovered by Western travellers.

We are thrilled with our trip and even though there have been a few difficult moments, we have thousands of wonderful memories. We met many friendly people, got to know the variety of Chinese cuisine and were able to discover wonderful landscapes. And yet we have seen only a fraction of this country ...

Resumee eines wundervollen Abenteuers durch das Reich der Mitte

Nach dem wir insgesamt über 4000 Kilometer zurückgelegt haben, heißt es leider: Abschied nehmen vom Reich der Mitte.
Wir möchten mit euch unsere wundervolle Reise Revue passieren lassen und euch unsere persönlichen Highlights hier zusammenfassen:

1. Peking und die große Mauer

Wo sollte man am besten beginnen, wenn man von Peking berichtet? Wir haben in den Tagen, in denen wir in Peking waren, viele beeindruckende Gebäude gesehen.

Must-do sind folgende Stationen:

Natürlich darf ein Ausflug zur großen Mauer nicht fehlen. Wirklich nicht.
Wir haben uns für eine Privattour entschieden, bei welcher wir von einem unrestaurierten, ursprünglichen Teilabschnitt nach Mutianyu (restauriert) gewandert sind.
Das Wandern auf der Mauer und die Landschaften sind atemberaubend.

2. Xi’an – Stadt der Seidenstraße

In Xi’an waren wir quasi nur auf der Durchreise, um in das heilige Huashan-Gebirge zu kommen. Auch wenn wir nicht bei der berühmten Terrakotta-Armee waren, hat uns die Stadt in ihren Charme genommen.

3. Plank in the Sky – Abenteuerfeeling vom Feinsten

Das Huashan-Gebirge ist vor allem wegen seines gefährlichen Wanderwegs berühmt. Uns hat das gesamte Gebirge wegen seiner beeindruckenden Landschaften gefallen.

4. Chengdu: Tee- und Panda-Stadt

Chengdu war ein Pflicht-Stopp auf unserer China-Reise. Als Teebegeisterte konnten wir hier im Teeviertel eine Teezeremonie erleben und die süßen Großen Pandas und Rote Pandas hautnah erleben.

5. Das mystische Avatar-Gebirge

Beeindruckendes Gebirge, die an die Landschaften in Avatar erinnern – der Zhangjiajie-Nationalpark ist zwar etwas abgelegen und schwer erreichbar, aber allemal eine Reise wert.

Die mystische Landschaft hat uns während der Wanderungen komplett in ihren Bann gezogen – einfach fabelhaft!

6. Idyllisches Karstgebirge

Last but not least: Yangshuo mit seinen wunderschönen Felsformationen und dem Yulong- und Li-Fluss.

Natürlich war China nicht immer so idyllisch wie auf diesen Bildern. Wer unsere letzten Posts gelesen hat, erinnert sich bestimmt, dass wir auch oft genervt waren von dem Gedränge an den Hotspots und von den verschmutzen Städten.
Aber China ist und bleibt ein besonderes, von den westlichen Reisebegeisterten noch recht unentdecktes Land.

Wir sind begeistert von unserer Reise, und auch wenn es ein paar anstrengende Momente gab, haben wir tausende unvergessliche Erinnerungen. Wir sind vielen freundlichen Menschen begegnet, haben die Vielfalt der chinesischen Küche kennengelernt und konnten wundervolle Landschaften entdecken. Und doch haben wir nur ein Bruchteil dieses Landes gesehen…
