Indonesia #07: Diving in Amed – Day 1 [EN/GER]

Welcome to Amed! Amed is a small, laid back town on the north-eastern side of Bali. The main reason for tourists to come her is diving. Amed is the gateway to the worlds famous USAT Liberty wreck, which lies close to the shore of Tulamben.

We stayed five nights in Amed and we absolutely loved it! We even would recommend going to Amed if you are not a diver, because there is so much more to do there. The town itself just has three things to offer: Dive shops, hostels and Warungs (Indonesian restaurants).
Talking about hostels: The Pacha Hostel in Amed was one of the best hostels we have EVER been! It is a Reggae Hostel with live bands twice a week. You have a big dining room, where you can meet other travelers, brand new outdoor showers and clean room. What else do you want? Of course breakfast! Every morning you get a delicious pancake with syrup, fresh fruits and coffee or tea. The best thing is: You only pay 60k (around 4USD) and breakfast is included! The people from the hostel are also super friendly. One of the guys even taught us how to drive a scooter. That is correct, Amed was the place where we finally learned how to ride a scooter (though it’s not really a big deal ;)). He didn’t even want money for the ‘lesson’. If you want to rent a scooter, to explore the area around Amed, you can also rent it at the Pacha Hostel.

But let’s talk about the real reason to visit Amed: Diving.
We chose Amed Fundive as an operator and we loved it. The prices are reasonable, the crew is friendly and professional and they speak several languages (including German and Spanish). On the first day we did three dives in Amed itself. The dive sites were Coral Gardens, Pyramids and Jemeluk bay (night dive). Our favourite one was Coral Gardens!

Willkommen in Amed! Amed ist ein kleines verschlafenes Nest an der Nordostküste Balis. Der Hauptgrund warum Touristen hierher kommen ist ganz klar das Tauchen. Amed ist der Ausgangspunkt für das weltberühmte Wrack der USAT Liberty, welche vor der Küste von Tulamben liegt.

Wir sind insgesamt fünf Nächte in Amed geblieben und waren total begeistert! Wir würden euch sogar empfehlen Amed zu besuchen, auch wenn ihr gar keine Taucher seid, da es in der Gegend noch sehr viel mehr zu sehen und erleben gibt. Das Dorf selbst hat eigentlich nur drei Dinge zu bieten: Tauchshops, Hostels und Warungs (indonesische Restaurants). Wenn wir gerade über Hostels sprechen: Das Pacha Hostel ist eines der besten Hostels, in dem wir jemals waren! Dabei handelt es sich um ein Raggae Hostel mit Liveband-Auftritten zweimal die Woche. Es gibt einen riesigen Gemeinschafts- und Essraum wo man super neue Leute kennen lernen kann, eine Dusche unter freiem Himmel und große, saubere Schlafsäle. Jeden Morgen gibt es zum Frühstück köstliche Pancakes mit Sirup, frische Früchte und Tee oder Kaffee. Eine Nacht kostet hier 60k (4USD) und dabei ist das Frühstück dabei!
Die Leute vom Hostel sind außerdem supernett. Einer der Angestellten hat uns sogar beigebracht, wie man einen Roller fährt (obwohl das nicht wirklich schwer ist ;)). Falls ihr die Gegend um Amed mit dem Roller erkunden wollt, könnt ihr diesen auch günstig im Pacha Hostel mieten.

Nun aber zurück zum Hauptgrund Amed zu besuchen, dem Tauchen. Wir haben uns für Amed Fundive entschieden und waren sehr zufrieden. Die Preise sind günstig, die Crew war cool drauf und sehr professionell, zudem sprechen sie mehrere Sprachen (unter anderem Deutsch und Spanisch). In Amed selbst haben wir drei Tauchgänge gemacht, die Tauchplätze waren: Coral Gardens, Pyramids und Jemeluk bay (Nachttauchgang). Coral Gardens hat uns davon am besten gefallen.
