Indonesia #16: The best way(s) to visit Borobudur!

We did a lot of research before this trip, which is the best way to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Borobudur. We read a lot of blogs and forums, but somehow we did not find the "perfect" solution before. We only knew in advance that we did not want to do an overpriced guided tour (as they are also offered to Mt. Bromo). Now that we have been there, we can rightly claim that we have found the best way to visit Borobudur.
The day before we rented a scooter in our hostel and left at 3 o'clock in the morning. At this time, the streets of Yogya are still so empty that the traffic causes absolutely no problems. We used our mobile phone as a navigation system. Simply download the Offline Map Maps.Me and enter Borobudur as a destination. Then we attached our phone with a device to the scooter (there are in various shops to buy, just ask around). And as simple as that you get a GPS. Once there, unfortunately, you have to pay a surcharge for the Sunrise Ticket before exploring the temple complex.

The sunrise at this temple was really unbelievable, so we think the extra charge is worth it. Unfortunately, there are still many other tourists during the sunrise, all of whom come with the guided tours. But they disappear quite shortly after sunrise, so you have the entire temple for about half an hour almost to yourself, before the crowds arrive.
After breakfast, which is included in the Sunrise ticket, we drove back to Yogya.

Now it is important to set the route for bicycles in the app! Then the route goes back over very beautiful country roads without almost no traffic (and briefly over a gravel road).

If you want to see both Borobudur and Prambanan and you are willing to skip the sunset (and ideally still be students), the * Comboticket * is a cheap alternative:

Sonnenaufgang in Borobudur

Wir haben vor dieser Reise wirklich sehr viel recherchiert, was die beste Möglichkeit ist die UNESCO Welterbestätte Borobudur zu besichtigen. Wir haben zahlreiche Blogs gelesen und in Foren recherchiert, aber irgendwie haben wir die „perfekte“ Lösung nicht vorher gefunden. Wir wussten im Vorfeld nur, dass wir keine überteuerte geführte Tour machen wollten (wie diese auch zum Mt. Bromo angeboten werden). Nachdem wir nun dort waren können wir mit Recht behaupten, dass wir die beste Möglichkeit Borobudur zu besichtigen gefunden haben.
Wir haben am Vortag einen Roller in unserem Hostel gemietet und sind dann um 3Uhr morgens losgefahren. Um diese Uhrzeit sind die Straßen von Yogja noch so leer, dass das der Verkehr absolut keine Probleme bereitet. Wir haben dabei unser Handy als Navi benutzt. Einfach die Offline Map Maps.Me runterladen und als Ziel Borobudur eingeben. Dann haben wir unser Handy mit einer Vorrichtung am Roller befestigt (gibt es dort in verschiedenen Läden zu kaufen, einfach mal rumfragen) und schon hat man ein Navi. Dort angekommen muss man dann leider ein Aufpreis für den Sonnenaufgang zahlen und kann sich dann die Tempelanlage anschauen.

Der Sonnenaufgang an dieser Tempelanlage war wirklich unglaublich, sodass sich der Aufpreis unserer Meinung nach lohnt. Während des Sonnenaufgangs sind leider noch relativ viele andere Touristen da, welche alle mit den geführten Touren kommen. Diese verschwinden aber schon recht schnell nach Sonnenaufgang, sodass man die gesamte Tempelanlage für ca. eine halbe Stunde fast für sich alleine hat, bevor danach der große Ansturm kommt.
Nach dem Frühstück, welches im Sunrise Ticket inklusive ist, sind wir wieder zurück nach Yogja gefahren.

Nun ist es wichtig in der App die Route für Fahrräder einzustellen! Dann geht die Fahrt zurück über sehr schöne und wenig befahrene Landstraßen (und kurzzeitig über eine Schotterstraße).

Falls ihr sowohl Borobudur als auch den Prambanan Tempel sehen wollt und auf den Sonnenuntergang verzichten könnt (und im Idealfall noch Studenten seid), gibt es mit dem Komboticket eine günstige Alternative:
