La Palma #3: Roadtrip and white Gold [EN/GER]

Today's program: Roadtrip trough the island and visiting the Salt Garden in the south of La Palma!

LP-301 near El Pilar

After a delicious breakfast with fresh vegetables and fruit, we start from Todoque towards El Paso and then turn off the LP-3 on the LP-301 in the direction of El Pilar. Soon, we make a short stop on the roadside, because the landscape is so impressive.

A brief stop here is a must do, considering this landscape, isn’t it?

The landscape is characterized by volcanic rock and black sand. Due to the many conifers, the landscape does not look barren, but offers a great natural spectacle.
We continue on the LP-301 to a small picnic area - El Pilar.

There, we get to see mighty pines, which stick out to the sky majestically.

After a short walk, we head south. On the east side of the island, we come to the LP-2, later on the LP-207, which leads us to Fuencaliente.

There are two things to see in Fuencaliente. These two great lighthouses and a Salt Garden, the Saline of Fuencaliente

Here, you can buy 100% natural salt. No additives or brighteners – let’s call it whit gold!

Every year, from May to November, 200 tons of salt are produced in these Salt Gardens - unbelievable quantities, right?

We are very grateful to visit this facility (no entrance fee is charged) and to learn more about this white gold.
Unfortunately, the cheap competitors from all over the world make it difficult for the small family business, to sell their salt.

The rest of the area is quite dull and not very interesting for a walk.

Therefore, after we have enjoyed a coffee in the small restaurant directly by the Salines, we go back home.

Heute stehen auf dem Programm: Roadtrip über die Insel und Besuch der Salinen im Süden La Palmas!

Die LP-301 bei El Pilar

Nach einem leckeren Frühstück mit frischem Gemüse und Obst starten wir von Todoque aus Richtung El Paso und biegen dann von der LP-3 auf die LP-301 Richtung El Pilar ab. Schon bald machen wir einen kurzen Stopp am Straßenrand, weil die Landschaft so beeindrucken ist.

Ein Bildstopp ist hier ein Muss, oder?

Die Landschaft ist geprägt von vulkanischem Gestein und schwarzem Sand. Durch die vielen Nadelbäume wirkt die Landschaft aber überhaupt nicht karg, sondern bietet ein tolles Naturschauspiel.
Wir fahren weiter auf der LP-301 bis zu einem kleinen Rastplatz – El Pilar.

Dort treffen wir auf mächtige Kiefern, die majestätisch in die Höhe ragen.

Nach einem kurzen Spaziergang geht es weiter gen Süden. Über die Ostseite der Insel kommen wir auf die LP-2, später auf die LP-207, welche uns bis Fuencaliente führt.

In Fuencaliente gibt es zwei Dinge zu sehen. Diese zwei tollen Leuchttürme und eine Salzanlage, die Saline von Fuencaliente

Dort gibt es 100% natürliches Salz zu kaufen. Ganz ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Aufheller – weißes Gold ist das also!

Jedes Jahr werden hier von Mai bis November 200 Tonnen Salz gewonnen – unglaubliche Mengen, oder?

Wir sind sehr dankbar, diese Anlage besichtigen zu dürfen und somit mehr über dieses weiße Gold zu erfahren.
Die billige Konkurrenz aus aller Welt macht es dem kleinen Familienbetrieb jedoch immer schwerer, das gewonnene Salz zu verkaufen.

Leider ist die restliche Gegend unglaublich karg und lädt nicht besonders zum Spazieren ein.

Daher machen wir uns, nachdem wir einen Kaffee in dem kleinen Restaurant direkt bei den Salinen genossen haben, wieder auf den Heimweg.
