Day 51 - 100 days of value challenge!

Todays post is about acknowledging and getting the best out of history.

Today we visited an old fortress built by the cretans back in the 16th century to protect them from the Ottoman empire (because the island of Crete was basically next logical target after they conquered Cyprus). Even though they tried, the Ottomans eventually conquered the city of Rethimno before they subsequently demolished the church that was there and built a giant Mosque while establishing their presence.

I'm not quite sure why I geek out so hard over history sometimes, but being the places where major historical events occurred is always breathtaking to me. To think that I'm standing on the ground where so many lost their lives fighting to protect their home.

(On a different note, I have to visit the Colosseum someday! Talk about historical)

I believe keeping in mind how history went down and how we usually circulate and repeat history is very important to make sure we learn from both our mistakes and our successes.

Think about it, how many wars have we fought? How many peoples homes have we stolen from them? Alexander conquered, so did the Mongols, Napoleon and countless others. It seems like we're never able to feed our appetite of expansion and glory.

Thankfully, today we're not quite there. It hasn't been too long though, but we're somewhat safe today. Then again, what do we fight over now? Money, resources, oil and still to a degree: land (Israel/Palestine).

I don't want to get too political here, but a life protip today is to always remember and never forgot how we got to where we are today, and to do your best to make sure we move forwards and not backwards. Because despite how much we all like to say it, things weren't better back in the day.
