A whole new experience at Giza Zoo in 2008

May 2023 · 4 min read · Giza

I lived in Egypt for four years from 2007-2011 and Giza Zoo was on walking distance from our house. I visited Zoo several times but just for walking purpose. When my brother visited us with his family in 2008, we went to too many attractions and one of them was Giza Zoo.

It was a unique and exciting experience, I have never seen so many animals that close, feeding them, playing with them, it’s a bit of risky though but my brother loves these types of adventures.

My Nephew was loving it, when seeing animals so close. He was really happy with that feeling. Well, I have never seen such thing anywhere else.

There is a responsible care taker of that animal placed at each cage who was taking care of each and everything, controlling the animals plus making kids happy by feeding animals.

Hippopotamus was looking dangerous with his wide open mouth and those big teeth. I really love animals but when my nephew was going so close to animals, I was little worried but my bro was chill with it, no issue, let him experience this wonderful thing.

I was going crazy when the care taker of monkey put something on my nephew’s head and monkey picked it up from there. Wow this was looking cool but I was not at all amused, it was looking too dangerous to me. Its ok if me and my bro doing the same but with kids, no way. However, we didn’t face any issue thank God, all went well and my nephew was enjoying a lot.

Time with Elephant was good too but it’s a friendly animal and it should be out of cage to have some rides for kids.
Then, he had a horse riding round. Looking at his face, he was just upset because his mom was not sitting with him, he was asking that man to step down and he will ride it all alone lol

Crazy and funniest time with camel, it was now my sister in law, who was asked to feed that camel. Honestly, that camel was really enjoying his time with all of us, I even saw him smiling couple of times and also captured some pictures of it. My sister in law was little scared of him, eating from her head and collar but my bro insisted her to be brave enough just like her son and do as said so we can take good clicks lol

Baby elephant was out there free from cage but he was just standing there and enjoying watching others playing with camel and horse riding.

At last, we came across the area of Lion and cubs. We were tourist so we were given some extra privileges as compared to the locals. The care taker of lions took us to their den, inside the cages. We, the whole family was inside and a lion, a big lion was sitting there. He was asking all of us to sit with that lion and have a family photo. Suddenly, the lion roars and that was the time, I just hold the hand of my parents and nephew and asked to step out of this place asap. I was not at all ready for all this with family.

We had a good time and I don’t want to spoil it so, I was not going to be the part of it, I was scared hehehe however, my brother was too much excited and because of him, my Father has to stay there. My Father don’t want his son to be all alone in that den. My brother hugged this young lion and my Father took these pictures of him, big lion somehow I don’t know the exact reason was skipped, maybe he was not in mood of pictures.

This was a unique experience for me to visit Zoo in such a way, its like living with those animals for a day, we all really enjoyed our time and it was no doubt a memorable one.
