There are hiking trails for that you need hours and don't see much, but there are also short trails with incredible views. This post is about the "Luftberg" ("air mountain") near Aggsbach-Dorf on the southern bank of the Danube in Wachau valley.
The hike starts at the "Amtshaus" (municipal office) of the municipality of Schönbühel-Aggsbach, which is located in the village Aggsbach-Dorf.
Follow the signpost "Luftbergweg".
Turn into the first street on the left.
Take the road in the middle - the left one and the right one only lead to private houses!
You will walk some meters through the woodland, then you have to turn left and continue walking on this path.
This path will turn right.
Then you have to walk straight ahead into the small wood.
When you reach the ridge of the small mountain you'll see some signposts. You now have to turn left.

Now you walk up the mountain ridge.
Two minutes later you will reach the top of the "Luftberg". The data of this hike doesn't sound that good. So far you only walked approximately one kilometer, covered a height distance of only 75 meters, had a walking time of 20 minutes and now you are on the top of a mountain that's a little bit below 300 meters above sea level. But: the view is incredible. Would you really have thought that you can enjoy such a beautiful view after this short walking distance?
Here you see Aggsbach-Markt, a market town that's on the opposite bank of the Danube river.

Here you look down to the western part of Wachau valley which on that day was covered with fog.
I can only recommend taking this hike. It is so short and easy but the view is so amazing!
