The ruins of Kronsegg castle

February 2020 · 2 min read · Gemeinde Langenlois

The ruins of Kronsegg castle is located in a small village called Kronsegg as well, that belongs to the municipality of Langenlois in Lower Austria.

From Langenlois you have to drive towards Schiltern. Approximately 2 kilometers before Schiltern the street to Kronsegg branches off. In Kronsegg you will find a parking for visitors of the ruins.

There you will also find this signpost. Here you have to turn left. Believe it or not - you will really need less than 10 minutes to get to the castle.

After some minutes you have to turn right and walk up this steep path. If it is too steep for you continue on the broader road.

Soon you will be at the entrance of the castle. Between Easter and the end of August, the castle is opeend from 9 AM to 6 PM. Entrance is free, but there is no infrastructure such as toilets, souvenir shops or restaurants in the castle.

Now you can explore the castle that has been erected around 1250.

In 1928, the municipality of Langenlois acquired the castle.

I recommend taking a torch with you so that you can also explore the "darker" areas of the castle.

The castle has been renovated between 1988 and 1994. During this renovation staircases and viewing platforms have been installed in both towers.

If like longer hikes, you can park your car at the "Stausee Kronsegg", an artificial lake approximately 1.5 km southeast of Kronsegg and walk from here to the castle.
