I thought we walked through a portal and landed in Puerto Rico!
We were driving back from having spent Christmas and New Year's Eve in Ohio at our regular pace... it takes us two days to go from Columbus to New York because that's how we do!
Let me rewind just a little...
Almost two weeks before Christmas I was blessed with having work really close to home and we were lucky to have an opportunity to salvage lots of building material from the job!
Unfortunately, wifey fell ill... maybe it was a flew, she had a difficult time breathing, she was congested and her body ached. At least her body waited for someone else to be around (that's me π) so that life with a four year old could keep going strong and she would have someone to take care of her!!! It's funny how things seem to very often turn out that way in our lives. This type of thing happened every time one of us was sick on our Indian honeymoon. One was always in full form when the other got a bug!
Eventually she went to the doctor's, before our trip to see her family for the holidays in Ohio. Chest infection, sinus infection and ear infection... Holy crap, no wonder she wanted to stay in bed in a dark room!!!
And our little guy was starting to cough a little too. I took precautions, drank a lot of water cooked with tons of garlic, had shots of apple ciser vinegar with a little cayenne pepper and made sue I washed my hands a little more than usually.
The job finished, my mom's birthday wasn't happening because she went to meet my little sister in New Mexico to help her cope with the pain she was dealing with from her kidney stones! So we decided to leave the next morning, Jess and our little homie had just enough energy to get on the road, yeah!!!!
Christmas here we come!!!
Once we got there, we found out here dad wasn't feeling well at all either... (what a lovely story, this is no?). He had gotten some sort of stomach flew, a bug going around town, the whole family had it! Well, sure enough Jess got hit by that bug too and spent most of the holidays ill... she had to fight another bug this time feeling more nausea than anything else as the first alements were fading away. The poor thing. And our little one must have been fighting something too because he woudn't eat anything, but he kept on making everyone play as he always does!
Than New Year's Eve came around, we had a party to go to. Jess wasn't feeling very strong but we went anyways to see some old friends of hers. I don't know if it was the alchohol or just the end of her illness but the next day she was cured and feeling her good old self again!!!
I thought I had beat the beast
...Well I thought I had beat the beast, but being so close to so many people carying flews and bugs and things for three weeks, one finally got me π§!
Luckily it only lasted some 48 hours, we were able to leave the next day as planned, on the 2nd day of the year!
And so we took our time to drive back home. The first day was ok, my belly would only cramp up once in a while and it generally only lasted a few minutes. On the second day I was feeling almost completely myself again.
And for lunch we decided to find something healthy. For those of you who have never come to the US, eating healthy on the road used to be almost impossible unless you packed your own lunch, went off the highway to find a local dinner perhaps, or go to a grocery store to make up a descent meal. Today, we have the internet and I think there are many more health conscious people than there used to be, therefore there's a market for healthy food too.
We used an app called Happy Cow, (you can also go to the site directly) to find a lovely Caribbean Restaurant that listed all sorts of vegetarian and vegan options in the middle of Pennsylvania!!!
Hey @freedompoint, @freedomtowrite and the whole traveling crew, this made me think of you. I know cooking your own vegan veggie meals is 1000 times better than many restaurants... but it may be a fun tool to add for your travels π!
Caribbean Connection in Lewisburg, PA... Excellent Island Cuisine.
I really thought we walked through a portal and landed in Puerto Rico! The place was really cute and inviting and the delicious smells of curry and jerk chicken poored out onto the street. We couldn't wait to eat!
Jess had a curried vegetables with rice and peas, little man had a cashew meat empanada and I had Jerk portabella, chayote slaw with rice and peas.
It was really delicious, be warned the jerk is reall spicy!
It was so good, I didn't even care about the parking ticket we got while sitting there...
Well that's it for now... I hope you enjoyed the trip. Until next time!

Oh yeah... I almost forgot about the ducks!
