Le Pain Quotidien served me half of a coffee

March 2022 · 5 min read · London

It's been a while

I have had a couple of coffees in this chain company bakery but it have been a while since I have stopped by. Also I have never visited this branch even if I have worked in close proximity of this place for many years.

This is in Tottenham Court Road, a very busy area in London and every single time I have passed by it was always super busy and full. But the other day while I was walking around I have noticed that there were a couple of empty tables so I had to give it a go.

I was a little bit hungry and I was tempted to order some food, but when I looked at the menu there was not really anything that caught my eye. Instead I had a quick coffee and went somewhere else to grab a snack.

Sometimes if you don't feel the menu it is better to not order. Because then if you are disappointed you only have yourself to blame, that in the first place were not feeling like to have nothing that they offer.

Very busy area

One of the good things about this place is that you have some tables outside, this is good if you are a smoker but in all honesty they are not the best sits in the house. As I said this is a very busy area, noisy and with people walking by nonstop. This are mainly people that are passing by going somewhere or work in the are so you know they will be rushing by your table, very close not caring about you having your chilled moment.

So it is a positive but personally (and I am a smoker) I don't think I would sit outside. It would be too stressful.

Now the menu cover looks great, I love my bread. But as I already said, the moment I have looked into it there was not really anything I was feeling like to have in that moment.

Great atmosphere and space

Now the room and the atmosphere inside was really nice. All the waiters seem to be having a good time. It was a little chaotic with so many people around. But it is the quiet hour and there were some people just enjoying their breaks and walking around. I can relate and understand and that doesn't bother me at all. The service was quick and everyone that was with me was really helpful and nice.

A Pandemic reminder

The biggest majority of People are just walking around like this past couple of years haven't even existed. But now and then we go to places where we get a reminder that we have survived a dangerous Pandemic and that we should not forget about it. Specially because we are not even free of the virus that have caused it.

With this I just wanted to say that we should learn from the lessons and do not forget about what we have lived.

It is important if we want to avoid the same mistakes and fall again in the same state of the world. We are almost there but we still need to be careful.

The atmosphere created but the small details and decorations, together with a great soundtrack and a nice mix between natural light and the warm tones really make you feel warm and cosy when you are sitting inside.

Got half of a coffee

This is the part that you have probably all been waiting for, the coffee, what are my thoughts about it...

Look at it and think for a second, what are your thoughts if you are served a latte that looks like this?

I feel like I was tricked and I am paying for foam

Needless to say that I was not amused with the fact that I was paying "!a fortune" for milk foam.

My discontent got even bigger when I was actually drinking the coffee and it was a nice coffee. It is like I was robbed of drinking my coffee because half of the glass was foam.

Because the last places I went I was too shocked with the lack of the quality of the americanos I didn't wanted to risk it, didn't wanted another cup of dirty water, so I thought it would be almost impossible to go with with a latte.

I was wrong.

Once again, the coffee was very nice. Just not enough of it.

In conclusion I would definitely stop in this or any other Le Pain Quotidien for another coffee. I had a very nice visit and the coffee was tasty. Maybe it was prepared by a new bartender so maybe the next time I will be a little bit more lucky and get some more coffee.

Other than that small detail, everything else was really nice.

When visiting a chain company, one of the good things is that you will know you will get very similar service, products and atmosphere no matter where you are. That is why this businesses usually thieve. Because people like the familiarity of it, people like to know what they are going to get even before they got it.
