After visiting the ruins of the church at Sigtuna, our interest in ruins was piqued.
We came to know about (Össeby Kyrkoruin) the ruins of Össeby Church so we decided to visit.

The scenic view begins as you turn off European Route 18 towards Brottby.

Össeby Church

Located in the Valentuna area of Stockholm city, this church ruin is a wonderful place.
Össeby Church was built in the 13th century as a parish church and was then used until 1837. At that time a large crack was found in the wall and vault of the stone church. Funds were lacking to repair the damage and it was instead abandoned. When the church was struck by lightning in 1856, it burned to ashes in a stone ruin.

Calm Surrounding

The calm surrounding the destruction is hard to describe. There are houses nearby, but it feels like you are completely alone on the site. By the time we reached there, the sun was setting, the sun setting behind the village farm was a beautiful sight.

The church ruins are well-maintained, well-marked and have a large, easily accessible parking lot. It's a nice place to visit that's open 24 hours a day.
