πŸ“· Somewhere on the Edge of the World. New Zealand. Part 9

May 2020 Β· 3 min read Β· Otago

On the shores of another lake β€” Lake Wanaka β€” there is a quiet town with the same name.

It seems to me that it is a kind of happiness to wake up in the morning here.

The Maori people call this lake Oanaka β€” "the place of Anaka", or the place of the leader.

And one of the most photogenic photogenic trees in the world grows here (at least the most photographed tree in New Zealand) β€” it's called That Wanaka Tree. If you could see how many photographers on the shore gather at sunset and dawn to catch that very shot of the tree! There are a lot of people with tripods)) Unfortunately, not so long ago this year, unknown vandals chopped off part of its branches, permanently changing its appearance (more details can be found here and here)

But at night the same shore was absolutely empty and it was possible to touch the stars without people. For example, this is Jupiter, not a star, but also not bad β€” it's like a terry towel by touch)

And just have fun with the laser pointer, while almost no one sees)

The next day we decided that it’s time for us to stretch our legs (and other parts of the body) well and take a walk to Rob Roy Glacier, not very far from Lake Wanaka.
No, no, no, it's not him. The glacier is somewhere there, far behind, and it's just a suspension bridge on the way to it.

First, we go through hundreds of cute sheep ...

... and cows. It is difficult to resist the desire to stay here and shoot these cute animals, but we need to move on.

Then we have a magical forest filled with ferns, birdsong and turquoise springs with clear water. Wow, I think I heard string music and laughter in the depths of the forest! Are there really elves?

2500px

Then we see a tall rock with a waterfall.

2500px

And finally, right in front of us is the goal of the journey β€” the remains of a huge glacier that once covered Lake Wanaka, and now is slowly disappearing under the hot sun of New Zealand. A wonderful sight, definitely worth spending a few hours.

To be continued... ;)
