Road Trip to Nasik,India ~ A Diverse Destination !!

August 2018 ยท 3 min read

Nasik in Maharashtra state of India is a very diverse destination. It is a land of ancient temples as well as a place famous for its wine tourism. Last year in September we made a road trip from Pune to Nasik (About 5 hours by car)

We started in the morning and reached Nasik by noon. We checked in to a hotel as it was a two day weekend trip.

After a quick freshening up we left to see Sula Vineyards ~ one of India's popular winery. It is near the Gangapur Dam amidst an enormous grape farm

It was turning cloudy by the evening.

This is the welcoming entrance of the winery. It has a tasting room ,restaurant, an amphitheatre and a resort.
People come here for wine tour and testing. It's a package of 350INR per person (about 5USD)

Wine tour is conducted in batches of about 20 people. They take you inside the wine cellars, introduce us to the huge machineries and finally to the tasting room.

You will be provided with 6 samples of different wine to taste with each sample of 20 to 30ml only๐Ÿ˜‹ They explain all about wines from holding the glass to how to differentiate the smell ,how to aerate the wine and so on.

After wine tasting you can spend time either in the restaurant or go for some wine shopping from their store. The above view is from the deck of the open restaurant overlooking acres of vineyards. It rained soon after and cool breeze was all over. We didn't do anymore wine tasting as the restaurant was so crowded and couldn't find a seat. So we proceeded towards the wine stores. And for the bonus they sell wines, grape seed oil and other grape by products at a discounted price .

If you want to have some fun do not miss the Sula Fest happening in February when you can enjoy wine along with live music band performances. The best time to visit winery is the grape harvesting season in December. You can even be part of grape stomping festival ๐Ÿ˜‰

Day 2 was totally different. It was divine, pure and serene. What awaited us was ancient temples and history.

We first proceeded to Trimbakeshwar temple . It is a very ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the 12 jyothirlingas (most powerful iconic representation of Lord Shiva) in India. It is believed that a person who visits all 12 jyothirlingas will attain Moksha. So it is a must visit place for all Hindu devotees.

The place itself was totally different from the other town parts.

This is the divine premises of the temple. It is surrounded by mountains, pond and waterfalls. The sacred pond in the temple premise is believed to be the source of river Godavari. The whole area has a positive energy. You feel pure and calm. It was breathtakingly beautiful. As it was weekend the temple was very crowded.

You can see all sorts of vendors in the temple premises.

We also visited another temple nearby. All temple premises were busy with people.

People from even far away places visited to seek the blessings of their favorite Lord .

On the way back we also stopped at this marigold flower field.
