Pisa Tower

The Pisa Tower in Italy must be one of the most famous towers in the world. The building contstruction started in 1174 and took nearly 200 years to complete. The reason it is leaning is because when it was first built, there was water underneath the ground so they couldn't build the foundation too deep. Overtime the foundation couldn't support the weight of the structure causing it to lean even more. Luckily with modern technology, the leaning is stabilised now and the tower is still safe for visitors to go up.

Access to the tower is via a spiral staircase inside. There are two upper levels where you can see the outside. This is the lower level and you can admire the stunning white marble structure work here.

Next up is the top level. Once you get here you get a great 360 degree view of the the city of Pisa.

Here are some of the photos I took at the top of the tower. The building next to the tower is the Pisa Cathedral and the smaller building in front of the cathedral is the Pisa Baptistry. It was a beautiful afternoon when I went and I could see very far away.

When I came back down from the tower, I tried to capture some photos of the entire tower. I remember I had to walk quite far back to get it in full view such as the first photo. My wife was playing around and tried to do a special effect photo but I don't think it came out very well!

If you ever have a chance to visit the Tuscany area in Italy, I highly recommend to visit the City of Pisa especially since you never know for how much longer this will remain open to visitors.
