Sights of Manchester

June 2019 · 4 min read · Manchester

Since I started writing on the STEEM blockchain, I take much more notice of my surroundings. I only mentioned this to @bozz yesterday.

We have a tendency to slam on the car brakes as there’s something appealing or different to photograph or see roadside, or continually stop if we notice something interesting. It’s like we are all mini journalists.

FIX_IMG_7386.jpg

I once dated an ex-married woman whose ex was a journalist. My view on them at the time was somewhat likened to the common parasite.

I saw Diana, Princess of Wales hounded by them and lose her life and perhaps this had hardened my opinion.

She got all pissed off with me when I stated my opinion but that’s all water under the bridge now. The woman was a complete fucking psycho and I hope we never cross paths again.

Maybe one day I’ll do a series named, ‘The Psycho Women Chronicles of Slobberchops’, but then again, probably not.

So now I am the journalist, but not the kind who chase celebrities down motorways. Should I retake my opinion?

Several weeks ago I found myself with some time to kill AGAIN, as @bingbabe was running yet another half-marathon around the city of Manchester.

After seeing her off, I dislocated myself from the crowds and started a walkabout.

Trams seem to be the big thing in cities now. Fewer cars and more public transport, it makes sense.

IMG_7396.jpg

Queen Victoria was staring down at me disapprovingly, not realising she is full of pigeon shit and accommodating one such bird on her right shoulder.

IMG_7397.jpg

The graffiti is no way on par with Leicester, and this bee was a far cry from the sights I witnessed during SteemCamp 2.

IMG_7398.jpg

I wonder if this could have been a decent explore before it was demolished. What do the owners of the ‘other’ building think about all the surplus ‘bits of wall’ now stuck to their property?

IMG_7399.jpg

You won’t get murdered going down a side street like this in Manchester, but I still would prefer to avoid such places.

IMG_7402.jpg

Still, parts of the city have been revamped since I was a teen. These fountains in Piccadilly Gardens did not used to exist.

IMG_7400.jpg

Vaping seems to be trendy now and is being marketed as ‘cool'. I have enough vices and will continue to keep my distance from anything smoke related.

IMG_7403.jpg

The street sellers did not seem to be busy.

IMG_7404.jpg

Debenhams is a large department chain. They have recently gone into administration which is similar to Chapter 13 in the US; they are about to go bust. This one has been here forever, you can see by the architecture that it’s from another time.

IMG_7409.jpg

The amount of rough sleepers has increased significantly in the last few years. This is a normal scene nowadays.

IMG_7413.jpg

I wanted to grab some breakfast here but @bingbabe was not interested. ‘The place is empty’, she cried. Yes, that is a valid point.

IMG_7415.jpg

House of Fraser is another department store that has been recently saved from going bust. This is one of the flagship stores. How much longer before they all vanish from the town centres?

Here are a few more snaps I took before collecting her after almost 2 hours. You have to make the most of your time and I now can submit this for the #wednesdaywalk.
