TacoCat’s Travels #111 (Japan 4.0: Fukuoka): Chillin' with Doggos before Flying Off! 🐶

May 2021 · 6 min read · Fukuoka

Hey Hive!

So if you didn't catch the last couple of posts, we're currently on a journey in Fukuoka that we went on back in May 2017! Neither of us had ever been to that part of Japan before and since there were some cheap flights we decided to go explore a new region together! Here we go!

Last week, we explored a new place, Kawabata, and had some lackluster sushi then had to go to Sushi Zanmai to satisfy my sushi cravings! We also tried Japan's KFC and it was kind of a letdown, sadly.

31 May 2017. Wednesday.

It was our last day in Fukuoka! And we didn't really have a plan for today so we just chilled in our apartment for a bit while we figured out what to do for the day. And we had a brunch in the form bacon omelette! Yummy!

Our apartment was near Yakuin Station and we found out there's a nice park not too far away so we decided to go check it out and enjoy a nice stroll there.

And we saw a couple of cats just chillin' in a carpark on the way to the park!

Here we are at the park! And man, what a view!

There were even a couple of turtles swimming in the lake! They were so cute!

There were some exercise corners and stuff around so of course Sean couldn't resist doing some pull-ups.

There was quite a large playground there as well, with a few different fixtures.

We were walking along and there were so many cats and birds here!

And this dude playing and petting the cats! It was so cute!

Sean wanted to do a muscle-up so of course I had to indulge him.

The lake view was so tranquil and beautiful! The weather was also perfect - bright but not too warm. The only thing that would make this better would be a rainbow in the blue sky!

We were walking along and saw an older couple walking their golden retriever! What a cutie!

There was even a fountain and a moat in the middle of this path separating the runners! I like that. Instead of having arrows and lines on the floor that no one follows, a moat like this forcibly separates people. Man, smart Japanese design at work again!

Aww look at that duck just gliding across the surface of the water like that.

I can see why many people like this park though. It's huge and spacious, and is so beautifully designed. They really used the greenery well here.

We were really curious about the gazebo though, so we headed in that direction.

From the bridge we saw a nice cafe where you could enjoy a meal by the lake!

The sun was slowly setting, and man the reflection of the sunset in the water is so pretty!

We took our time crossing the bridge while enjoying the view.

And I managed to get a photo of this beautiful mallard! I think it was the same duck from the previous picture, but dang the ripples on the lake surface make this shot look so cool imo.

I like this contrasting architectural styles; with the traditional colourful floating gazebo in the foreground and the bland urban buildings in the back.

Sorry I'm just a sucker for sunset shots, especially when it reflects on a body of water.

Here we are!

And man, what a perfect time to come here too! The sunset makes for such beautiful shots, and we didn't have to worry too much about heat.

Tried to take some cool-looking shots since it was pretty symmetrical.

I think this would be a very nice spot for wedding photos too!

But we had fun just doing some silly poses.

And admiring the sunset

One last selfie here. Too bad the sunset got covered by the clouds.

I didn't notice the words on the bridge before, but it looks so cool!

Walking along, we saw the same couple and their doggo again! What a derpy boi :3

We also saw this little cutie!

It was so peaceful and calming just taking a nice stroll through the park.

Then we stumbled upon a whole gathering of doggos!

I think my phone ran out of battery for a bit but we just hung around watching the doggos bork at each other and play. I charged my phone with our portable power bank while we walked on and ended up in a stationery shop!

For the life of me I can't remember what the name of the store was, and I only remember that the logo is a yellow square. They had so much Snoopy merch available!

We found this beanie that was so cute I had to try a model pose!

And here's a normal one:

For dinner we went to our favourite tendon place - Tendon tenya!

I've written about tendon before on my foodie series quite some time back, but it's our absolute favourite go-to place for tempura!

And one of my favourite sets to order is the small tendon with a small bowl of udon/soba.

It was delicious! The tendon can be a little dry so the soba helps with the soup. And the soba is soo smooth although the broth is pretty average. Altogether, an awesome meal for less than 900 yen!

After that we went to the arcade and chilled a little bit while playing some games!

Sean tried Tekken 7 too which was basically just mashing buttons.

After that we went home and made eggs and luncheon meat for supper! Yummilicious!

1 June 2017. Thursday.

Our flight was pretty early so we had to get up at like 8am and head to the airport! It was also a connecting flight so it'd take a while unfortunately.

The Fukuoka airport is pretty small so there's not much to see here.

Except this cool-looking float topper.?

We had to walk on the tarmac to get to our plane but it gave us a good chance to take a pic!

We had pasta as the in-flight meal and it was pretty alright.

We ended up in the Ho Chi Minh airport and had Burger King there as a snack!

Second in-flight meal! Chicken and potatoes were actually pretty good!

One last shot of this amazing sunset from our plane! I don't even know how this happened but it looks so awesome!

But that's officially the end of our Fukuoka trip! It was so fun walking down memory lane and reliving all these awesome memories! Especially when we went to Huis Ten Bosch

I hope you enjoyed reading this series too! Next week: a whole new adventure! Stay tuned!
