Siempre me ha llamado la atención el paisaje que se recrea en mi imaginación al pensar en Marruecos y todo por culpa de aquella conocida película “Casablanca”.

Nunca tuve un plan predeterminado, todo sucedió al azar durante el otoño del 2013 mientras estuve de vacaciones en España. Yo pasé muy brevemente por Algeciras con deseos de conocer el Peñón de Gibraltar. En el puerto de Algeciras descubrí que partían varios ferrys hacia Tánger y Ceuta en Marruecos, por sugerencia de la posada donde me hospedé, decidí dar un corto paseo y elegí Tánger.
I never had a predetermined plan, everything happened randomly during the fall of 2013 while I was on vacation in Spain, I passed very briefly through Algeciras with the desire to know the Rock of Gibraltar. At the port of Algeciras I discovered that several ferries were leaving for Tanger and Ceuta in Morocco, at the suggestion of the inn where I stayed, I decided to take a short tour and chose Tanger.

Salí muy temprano del puerto de Algeciras con mi pequeña cámara en mano, y debo admitir que no se tomar buenas fotografías. El viaje debía durar 3 horas según el boleto, pero hubo una terrible tormenta en el transcurso y el viaje duró casi 5 horas. El asunto de la tormenta fue terrible para mí, pero lo dejaré para otra historia.
I left the port of Algeciras very early with my small camera in hand, and I must admit that I did not take good pictures. The trip was supposed to last 3 hours according to the ticket, but there was a terrible storm in the course and the trip lasted almost 5 hours. The matter of the storm was terrible for me, but I will leave it for another story.

Llegada al Puerto de Tánger / Arrival al Tanger Port
Tan pronto desembarqué, se hizo notar la gran frontera del idioma entre otras cosas, supongo que es menos complejo en la capital, con ayuda conseguí un taxi que me llevara al centro del pueblo. De inmediato pedí orientación, en inglés, para ir hasta la medina más cercana y por fin alguien me entendió, amablemente me dio instrucciones y estaba muy cerca del hotel que elegí, solo pasaría allí una noche. El paseo por el “zoco” fue especial, esto es un pequeño mercado con productos locales muy variados, desde alimentos, carnes de ovejas, y también mucha artesanía hecha por los bereberes (son etnias autóctonas). Finalmente, allí compré una pequeña alfombra y una gran manta (que uso como cubrecamas actualmente).

I immediately asked for guidance, in english language, to go to the nearest Medina and finally someone understood me, kindly gave me instructions and was very close to the hotel I chose, I would only spend one night there. The walk through the "souk" was special, this is a small market with very varied local products, from food, sheep meat, and also a lot of crafts made by the Berbers (they are indigenous ethnic groups). Finally, there I bought a small rug and a large blanket (which I currently use as a bedspread).
Es importante resaltar que en Marruecos el idioma local es árabe clásico y el idioma administrativo es el francés. Pocos lugareños hablan francés o inglés en Tánger
It´s important to note that in Moroco the local language is classical Arabic and the administrative language is French. Few locals speak French or English in Tanger
Las Cuevas de Hércules, en serio? / Hercules Caves, really?
Al día siguiente muy temprano salí a tomar un café y buscar un taxi para un recorrido, encontré o me encontró a mí (algo desorientada) una joven marroquí con un “español muy fluido” y le dije que buscaba un taxi, me informó que los taxis son compartidos mayormente (me:…¿?) y que su taxista podría llevarme a sitios interesante, es un chofer confiable. Confié y …el recorrido fue maravilloso, estuve en las “Cuevas de Hércules” (pensé que era un mito, pero el sujeto existió alguna vez, dicen los lugareños). Es un lugar concurrido, la entrada en muy económica y tomé muchas fotos, alguna buenas (por lo menos para mí) y otra no tanto.
The next day, very early, I went out for coffee and looked for a taxi to take a tour, I found or she found me (somewhat disoriented) a Moroccan girl with a "very fluent Spanish" and I said I was looking for a taxi, he informed me that taxis are mostly shared (me: ...?) and that his taxi driver could take me to interesting places, he is a reliable driver. I trusted and ... the tour was wonderful, I was in the "Caves of Hercules" (I thought it was a myth, but the guy once existed, say the locals). It is a busy place, the entrance is very cheap and I took many photos, some good (at least for me) and others not so much.

Busqué algo en internet y supuestamente los fenicios hicieron una especie de "ventana al mar" y casualmente la apertura tiene la forma del Continente Africano (como en la foto)

Desde el exterior de la cueva se puede apreciar una vista espectacular de la costa, con algunos servicios para pasar un buen rato. Visité otros lugares cercanos como Cabo Espartel, donde se une el Atlántico con el Mar Mediterráneo, algo muy hermoso, pero no conseguí las fotos que tomé allí, solo del faro en la torre y la foto montando en camello que la hice luego de salir de Cabo Espartel, los encontramos en la vía y me ofrecieron conocer a “Susana” (el camello de la foto cabe aclarar).
From the outside of the cave you can see a spectacular view of the coast, with some services to have a good time. I visited other nearby places like Cabo Espartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean Sea, something very beautiful, but I did not get the photos I took there, only of the lighthouse in the tower and the photo riding a camel that I did after leaving Cabo Espartel, we met them on the road and they offered me to meet “Susana” (the camel in the photo should be clarified).

Para cerrar el paseo, al llegar al hotel salí de inmediato a recorrer La Medina para comprar algún otro sourvenir, encontré unos zapatos espectaculares. Al salir me encontré con una plaza y aproveché para comer algo autóctono, el Cuscús (sémola de trigo y verdura). Ya con esto tomé un ferry para regresar a Algeciras. Fin de la aventura.
To close the walk, when I got to the hotel I immediately went out to La Medina to buy some other sourvenir, I found some spectacular shoes. When I left I found a plaza and took the opportunity to eat something autochthonous, the Couscous (semolina of wheat and vegetables). With this I took a ferry to return to Algeciras. End of the adventure.
