THE WHITE TEMPLE , CHIANG RAI

THE WHITE TEMPLE , CHIANG RAI

November 2021 · 3 min read · Chiang Rai Province

This is the most probably the coolest temple that i ever visit in Thailand. Wat Rong Khun or also known as The White Temple of Chiang Rai was located Mueang Chiang Rai District, Chiang Rai .

The original Temple of Wat Rong Khun was in bad state and need to be repair. Unfortunately , the is no fund available for renovation at that time . Chalermchai Kositpipat , local artist from Chiang Rai decided to use his own money to do the renovation. This temple purpose is to become the a center of learning and meditation for people to gain benefit from Buddhist Teaching . Source

I was lucky to have an opportunity to visit this temple when i was travelling in Thailand.

Structure and symbol Source
The bridge of “the cycle of rebirth”
The main highlight at this temple is the ubosot , the main building of the white temple that can be reach by crossing a bridge over a small lake. In front of the bridge there is hundred of reaching hand that symbolize desire. This area represents human sufferings and hell. The bridge towards the ubosot called the bridge of "the cycle of rebirth" is a symbol crossing over from cycle of death and rebirth.

Too bad , i didnt manage to get the picture of the hand because the bridge cannot be cross at the time of my visit.

This is the picture that i get from the internet.

The gold symbolizes how people focus on worldly desires and money. The golden building represents the idea to focus on the mind instead of material things and possession.

The building is still under renovation and expected to be done in 2070. But , they are opening the temple public to come and visit the temple.

This is some other picture that i have take during my visit . I hope you enjoy those series of The White Temple of Chiang Rai.

Personally i was super empress on how the building was being build in such detail. Plus the fund is from his personal saving . Chalermchai Kositpipat has my respect in his passion in art , religion and to serve his people by giving his possession on earth for a purpose good. I hope you enjoy this series and tiny place in my travel journey.
