Great Food Finds at Muji with Travelgirl

December 2019 · 3 min read

Hi Everyone,

Muji is a famous retail store in Japan. It’s design is simple and promotes minimalist and a no-brand policy. I love the fact when I buy their items, they are so simple yet useful for everyday use. In Sydney, we have 2 Muji stores and they sell the usual household & travel items, stationaries and skincare. We lack the food that the Japanese stores have in Japan. Every time I’m in Japan, I will normally bring back a load of food from Muji. This time, I have found a few items that I bought back.

In Japan, the food variety offered in Muji includes soups, cooking sauces, oil, tea and coffee, confectionery, nuts and so on. I’ve tried so many over the years and each time I go back there is something new to bring back. Below are only some of the items that are available for purchase. The prices are very reasonable though I do find the tea leaves a bit on the expensive side for what it is. It is also noted that due to Australia’s strict custom policy, I wasn’t able to bring many things back which was a shame.

I bought back a number of stuff in particular snacks but the little ones have already gobbled them up. The other thing that I have tried and continue to buy back are the soup cubes. They are really delicious and comes in different flavours. They are like a hard tablet and once you pour in the water, it dissolves and the bits of the veggies will fill the cup. They aren’t cheap but worth every penny. The other thing I bought back which I haven’t tried before was the instant ginger cocoa and matcha latte. They were on special - buy 2 for a special price. There were more flavours but I think these two suits our taste buds.

The other thing I did bring back was some coffee. I did make the mistake of bringing back decaf but none the less, it still has a nice aroma that fills the house. It also comes in the nice drip packaging which is a nice way to make coffee nowadays. You can have your drip coffee right at your desk. My other half loved it just it was decaf. I will have to read the packing carefully next time.

I wish I could bring more food back from Muji but I had limited luggage space. In fact, I do hope that the Muji in Australian can import some food into their stores so Muji lovers don’t need to think about hauling them back from Japan and take up more luggage space.
