Limited Time Capsule Toy Machines @ Akihabara JR Station, Japan with Travelgirl

December 2019 · 2 min read · Chiyoda

Hi Everyone,

For 4 months, in the middle of Akihabara JR station (inside the gates) was a limited-time capsule toy machine event for commuters. Akihabara is a major station on the Yamanote line which can be reached by subways and other JR lines. As commuters change trains, they will most definitely have to go past the open area where the capsule machines are located. It was a nice feature to put in this open space, let people stop and spend a bit of time checking out these cute toys.

There was a variety of them depending on what you like. They are also priced differently depending on the popular of the toy and the size of it. As you can see below, at 9 pm there were still many people around the area trying to find a toy they want to try and get from the machines. They range from 200 - 500 yen from what I can see where the 500 yen ones are bigger toys.

If you don’t have any 100 yen coins, don’t worry there was a machine for commuters get change for the machines. Note that the machines only take 100 yen coins and no other so make sure you put in the right coins when trying to get a capsule. Of course I was looking out for Hello Kitty and Sanrio friends and found a few I like. I did spend quite a bit of money on some of them. I’ve always liked capsule toys as I love the suspense and the click of every time you turn the knob, the result may not be always what you wanted but definitely something fun or cool will come out.
