Shopping At Seria (100 Yen Store) in Japan with Travelgirl

January 2020 · 3 min read · Sumida

Hi Everyone,

Japan is famous for its 100 yen stores (which is approximately $1.50 AUD with the current exchange rate) and there are a few big and popular stores local people go to including Daiso, Seria and Can Do. Most items at these stores are 100 yen + tax unless marked and are popular locally and for tourists. They are usually of high quality and always change stock regularly to keep customers coming back for more. Each store has their own special stock so you don’t usually see double up products at different branded stores. Let me take you around to a Seria to see what items they have to give you an idea of how you can spend little buy can buy lots!

I find Seria is great for homeware. I bought a bulk of my homeware/ cookware from Seria. Depending on the product, they are mostly made locally but many items are also made around the world. I wish I could bring glassware home but they are too heavy and risky to take home. Remember most of them are 100 yen each. Store sizes vary so I suggest go to a bigger store to get a better variety of colours and sizes. The below is just a small sample of the glassware available.

They also sell lots of gardening products, hardware for any home improvements, cleaning tools etc. Remember to take some time out to read the packaging as you may miss some gems in these isles.

Seria also has a great selection of licensed products. I love this section in particular for Sanrio and Disney products. I normally stock up my supplies for gifts in this selection. They are not just kiddy items, they are actual items adults would use like stationery, kitchenware, socks, different sized lunch bags etc. What a great place to find some cheap, great quality products to take home. There is no way we could get these products for just 100 yen in Sydney!

An interesting item I found from the beauty section was a “toothbrush type brush face”. Honestly not sure what it was for but it does say something about getting rid of dirty, bacteria from the face but not sure how effective it was. You will definitely find some cool stuff here and probably spend more than you expect but with a bag load to take home. If you are in Japan, make sure to visit a Seria!
