Traveling the World #177 - Tomica Shop @ Sky Tree, Japan

December 2019 · 3 min read · Sumida

Hi Everyone,

The thing I look forward to Japan apart for the food and drinks will have to be shopping. One of the stores that is a must-visit and is on my list to do is visit a Tomica Shop. They sell all sorts of good quality trains and cars and is loved by many kids. The aim is to find the particular car from the movie Cars that baby E lost in Europe last year.

After a bit of a search, I finally found the store at Sky Tree. This store is an absolute wonderland for those who love this brand. The only noise you hear is kids getting excited about the toys they saw and the train corner where kids would watch the train go round in circles. When you walk in, the vehicles are placed in series and themes so you can easily find what you are after. The more traditional ones are at the cheap end starting at 500 yen each and go up if they have a special design or from a particular series. Most of them are die cast so they are of good quality.

On the other side of the wall, there are many sets you could buy. This includes car parks, construction sites, aeroplanes and runways and more. Basically if you are a fan of vehicles, you will stand this stall thing what you should be taking home.

At the back of the store, there are all sorts of Tomica merchandises including PJs, shorts, shirts, underwear, bags, cutlery etc. I was somewhat glad the boys were not with me or I probably have to bring the whole shop back to Sydney. Due to the popularity of this brand and the high quality products they produce, the prices do reflect on each item but it is worth the price.

Lastly, just by the door, there is a UFO machine to let die hard fans to try their luck getting a Tomica car for a fraction of the price. This series was nothing something the boys would like so I didn’t give it a go. I ended up getting 4 things from there which wasn't cheap (some had a trailer/carriage so its double the price) but I'm sure the boys will love it

If you are a car fan and want some good quality toys, do come by this store and check it out. They do have other branches around Japan so it is worth having a look on their website beforehand.
