Good morning from ASTANA - I'm back in Winter! ❄❄❄ [EN/DE]

Good morning, dear Steemians! I would like to bring you the first situation report from the winterly Kazakhstan! Don't be fooled by the blue sky on the cover image (view from my hotel room), it's 4°C here and there's an icy wind blowing. Looks as if my luck with the weather has gone and also otherwise there were already complications. But let's start from the beginning.

Guten Morgen, liebe Steemianer! Ich melde mich mit dem ersten Lagebericht aus dem winterlichen Kasachstan! Lasst euch nicht vom blauen Himmel auf dem Titelbild (Aussicht von meinem Hotelzimmer) täuschen, es hat hier 4°C und es pfeift ein eisiger Wind. Scheint so, als ob mich mein Glück mit dem Wetter erstmal verlassen hat und auch sonst gab es schon Komplikationen. Aber fangen wir von vorne an.

Yesterday morning I started by car towards Budapest Airport. The weather was still excellent. Without any problems I drove the three hours to the airport. I fly very often from Budapest, because especially Wizz Air flies from here to many interesting destinations for very reasonable prices. For a return flight to Astana I pay only 127€!

Gestern früh bin ich mit dem Auto in Richtung Flughafen Budapest gestartet. Da war das Wetter noch hervorragend. Ohne Probleme fuhr ich die drei Stunden zum Flughafen durch. Ich fliege sehr oft von Budapest, da vor Allem Wizz Air von hier viele interessante Destinationen, zu sehr günstigen Preisen anfliegt. Für den Hin- und Rückflug nach Astana bezahle ich gerade mal 127€!

The almost five-hour flight was quite calm and we even arrived in Astana 20 minutes earlier than expected. During the landing approach you could already see the lights of the city and of course the miserable weather.

Der knapp fünfstündige Flug verlief ziemlich ruhig und wir kamen sogar 20 Minuten früher als prognostiziert in Astana an. Im Landeanflug konnte man schon die Lichter der Stadt sehen und natürlich das miserable Wetter.

I arranged a pick-up from the airport with my hotel. The driver was supposed to be waiting for me in the terminal building. Well, unfortunately I arrived and there wasn't any person with a sign with my name on it anywhere. While I waited for half an hour, I tried unsuccessfully to log in to the airport's free Wi-Fi. Finally a taxi driver offered me to call my accommodation with his mobile phone, which I did. The lady on the other end of the line apologized several times and assured that the driver would arrive in a few minutes. After the phone call the friendly taxi driver, who lent me his phone of course wanted to have money from me. I gave him 1,000 Tenge, which was still much less than if I have had to call with my own phone.

Ich hatte mit meinem Hotel eine Abholung vom Flughafen vereinbart. Der Fahrer sollte eigentlich im Terminalgebäude auf mich warten. Tja, leider kam ich an und es war weit und breit keine Person mit einem Schild, auf dem mein Name steht, zu finden. Während ich eine halbe Stunde wartete, versuchte ich vergeblich, mich in das kostenlose W-LAN des Flughafens einzuloggen. Schließlich bot mir ein Taxifahrer an, mit seinem Handy die Unterkunft anzurufen, was ich dann auch tat. Die Dame am anderen Ende der Leitung entschuldigte sich mehrfach und versicherte, dass der Fahrer in wenigen Minuten ankommen würde. Nach dem Telefonat wollte der freundliche Taxifahrer, der mir sein Handy borgte, natürlich dafür Geld haben. Ich gab ihm 1.000 Tenge, das war noch immer viel weniger, als wenn ich mit meinem eigenen Handy hätte anrufen müssen.

After another half hour the time had finally come. My driver arrived and we drove in the pouring rain to the hotel. Tired and relieved I finally checked in and the room was really a positive surprise. It is modernly furnished, clean and everything works perfectly, including fast and stable Wi-Fi. Unfortunately there seems to be no heating anymore, which makes it a bit fresh in the room.

Nach einer weiteren halben Stunde war es dann endlich soweit. Mein Fahrer kam an und wir fuhren im strömenden Regen Richtung Hotel. Müde und erleichtert checkte ich endlich ein und das Zimmer war wirklich eine positive Überraschung. Es ist modern eingerichtet, sauber und alles funktioniert einwandfrei, inklusive schnellem, stabilem W-LAN. Leider wird anscheinend nicht mehr geheizt, wodurch es doch etwas frisch im Zimmer ist.

I've just returned from breakfast now and I was really excited about what you get served here. It was very tasty and when I consider that I only pay about 25€ per night, then the value for money is really first class! So, now I will slowly dress warmly and start to explore the city. If I haven't frozen to death in the meantime, I want to present you first impressions of the city within the next days. After all, tomorrow it should already have up to 17°C again, that sounds promising! So see you soon! 😊

Soeben bin ich vom Frühstück zurückgekommen und war wirklich begeistert, was man hier serviert bekommt. Es war sehr lecker und wenn ich bedenke, dass ich nur knapp 25€ pro Nacht bezahle, dann ist das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis wirklich erstklassig! So, jetzt werde ich mich aber langsam warm anziehen und beginnen, die Stadt zu erkunden. Falls ich inzwischen nicht erfroren bin, will ich euch in den nächsten Tagen, erste Eindrücke der Stadt präsentieren. Immerhin soll es morgen auch schon wieder bis zu 17°C haben, das klingt vielversprechend! Also bis bald! 😊
