Upon first arriving to the city I was first impressed with how polite and efficient everything is in this beach city. I had heard stories about horrible traffic, rude drivers, dirty beaches, and non-existent sidewalks. Granted I am in the tourist part of town (because I am a tourist) and I have noticed none of these things to be true.
Now that is not to suggest that there wasn't a lot of beeping of the horns. That much is true. It seems to be required of all drivers to honk their horns constantly. However, let's get back to the beach, which was almost completely devoid of people and I don't understand why
Since I arrived at 10AM and my hotel room wasn't going to be ready until 1 I walked a very long way down the beach, encountering 3 separate areas and none of them were dirty at all.
Also, there are these HUGE boardwalk style footpaths connecting all of it. The gardens in-between were nicely maintained, and there are little cafes and coffee-shops all over the place

I am still not terribly well-versed in the local currency, but I did the math later and found out that my beach-front iced coffee, which had me wide awake at at the point of shaking for at least an hour afterwards, was around 70 cents. This is an incredible value in my mind. If this is how much it costs at the beach, imagine how cheap it is a few blocks away.

The breeze coming off the beach is just perfect and while it is sunny, it isn't oppressively hot. There is also a lot of natural shade on the beach which came in handy because I was walking for an hour and a half and barely broke a sweat.
So if you are looking for a cheap beach getaway and heard nasty rumors about Da Nang being dirty and / or cheap.... I can tell you that this has not been my experience AT ALL so far. Walking around has been easy and the beaches are extremely clean by my standards. So far this beach is perfect.
I am yet to get into the water though.
As a side note I think it is important to point out that this place is extremely budget-friendly as well. There are loads of hotels 1 block away from the beach that are $20 a night or even less. The one I am staying in I was able to book for a week for a mere $70.
