Mt Coot-Tha Lookout, Brisbane.

This observation point at Mt. Coot-Tha, offers the very best views of Brisbane city and surrounding areas as it is the highest peak in Brisbane. From this lofty vantage point you can see meandering rivers, city skyscrapers and even the coastline in the distance.

Mt. Coot-Tha is an Aboriginal word meaning, 'Place of Honey.' The Aboriginal people of this area used to come to the mountain to collect 'ku-ta' (honey) which was produced by the native stingless bee.

A short distance from the city centre one can travel from the base of Mt. Coot-Tha up Sir Samuel Griffith Scenic Drive to the summit. The area contains beautifully manicured gardens, and natural bushland which is part of Brisbane Forest Park.

Facilities at the top include the Summit Restaurant and Bar, Function Centre, Kuta Café, Gift Shop, and of course, the Observation Deck.

The Kuta café offers an informal ambience and is beautifully situated to provide incredible views over Brisbane. Their wide range of meals is accompanied by a choice of chilled beverages, alcoholic drinks or coffee and tea.

On a clear day, Moreton Bay is visible to the east and parts of the Glasshouse mountains to the north can be viewed also. There are a few bushwalks in the vicinity which include the Aboriginal Track and Slaughter Falls with many picnic spots to relax and enjoy nature.

Night views are spectacular with city lights and star filled skies competing against each other. The function centre caters for a variety of functions and they provide options for wedding parties to customise their own package regarding menus.

The menus are carefully constructed by an Executive chef and his team and these are prepared with produce served at the highest quality standards and with local produce when available. Business functions are also popular and corporate breakfasts, sunset cocktails and conference dinners are well catered for.

Wispy branches from a Common Coral Tree, frame this image. The Lorikeets love eating the seeds from these colourful plants.

This image was taken to the left of the Summit Restaurant and I was fortunate that this gorgeous lorikeet paused from his lunch to look up and allow me to take his photo.
