The food of life
Hello friends
Today I present something very important for humanity and animals
The Salts of Añana.
No one can live without the rich salt.
Formerly it was the most precious asset and today for its rarity a wonder.
The Salt Valley of the Alava town of Añana is currently one of the most spectacular and best preserved cultural landscapes in Europe.
At 30 kilometers from Vitoria with 6,500 years of history, it still retains the appearance of those years.
Today they have become fashionable, but they were very forgotten for normal people although in the town they have never been abandoned.
The salt is taken from a sea of more than 200 million years, sea that today does not exist but its salt.
The brine is put in the ages to obtain salt by solar evaporation. A peculiar and extensive network of wooden channels distributes the water to the most remote points of the Salt Valley.
It is only necessary to move it when the sun dries the water and when only the salt is left to collect it.
It is a very heavy work since the salinity of the air causes everything to dry out and a layer of salt remains that the air spreads throughout the field.
It is a beautiful place that reminds us that salt is very important for all living organisms.
The photos are taken from the road since a few days can be visited.
But you can see from it how they are separated for each farmer. Then when the salt is collected and weighed, the whole town unites it and reaches the markets.
It seems an abandoned place, but it is not so in these years it has flourished and appreciated by all of us.
