One trip to remember

September 2018 · 5 min read

While I am reading @bozz his posts and seeing those typical (for us) American landscapes and surrounding I think back to our trip to the states. I have made some posts about itbefore, but this trip to the states made such a impression on all of us.

First we went to New York for 5 days, and what a great city that is. All these buildings, streets and neighbourhoods you know from TV and now seeing them for real.. And after New York we flew to Orlando. In Orlando we rented a car (or must I say a truck, for the rest of the holiday. I always dreamed of driving a big American car for once, and we did. Our youngest almost needed a ladder to get in to the car :)

The plan was to have a trip by car through Florida, starting in Orlando (where we stayed in a resort for a few days) and finally end our trip in Miami. While with the risk repeating myself from the former posts I would like to name a few highlights.

Carlo's bakeshop

We have watched many episode's of "The Cakeboss" on Discovery in Holland. When my wife read that there was a Carlo's bakeshop in the Florida mall she just had to go there. And as far as I am concerned, she made a excellent choice because the cakes and stuff were delicious.

As you can see, my son loved it to...his face was eating with him :)

Kennedy spacecenter

At Kennedy spacecenter a piece of American space history is exhibited. Impressive and almost unreal to see those rockets and other equipment from which you would never believe it will manage in space :)

A round of golf

At our resort there were 3 golfcourses. So we couldn't resist to hit a couple of balls. Of course my boys were better then daddy :) But we did have fun.

I do remember the temperature beeing very hot, maybe that influenced my results a bit ;)

Myakka park

Friends of us, who been to Florida before us, told us that we would love Myakka park. It's a state park with a lot of wildlife like Aligators.

We took a tour there. When we entered the park a nice lady told us that not all roads where open because of some floods of last week. And if we wanted to have a discount it was not a problem :). I was really surprised by that because in Holland, no doubt, they would let you pay for the whole deal.. flood or no flood.

Quite soon we discovered the first aligator, it was lying just besides a bridge. I think aligators are fascinating animals. The look dull and slow, but in fact they are fast and dangerous...

We took a boattrip on a big swampboat, with a lot of other people we went across the lake. We saw, from a big distance, a lot of aligators. The were swimming at ease, as far as I understand they didn't had any natural enemies in that water, so there were enough of them :)

I thought these guys were crazy. Just a bit of problems with your balance and you are in the water, next to croq and his friends :P

Sarasota National Cemetry

I think it is important to show my kids that not everything is as beautiful as it seems. That there are made great sacrifices in the world to let us live our life in the way we are living it. Part of that, unfortunatly, is war all over the world to fight for freedom and humanity. So we went to the Sarasota militatary cemetry. I was humble seeing all those graves. It was such a impressive and big place, never seen anything like it....

Educational theme parc

My wife arranged tickets for some kind of educational theme parc. We thought it would be a lot bigger, but in real it was a small parc with some things for the kids to do and a show about animals. Nevertheless it was great and the kids had a lot of fun.

When they came trough the crowd with a snake our oldest was scared like crazy, I had a big laugh about it... He didn't ;)

It's my birthday

Often I celebrate my birthday when we are on holiday , this time it was no different. The only thing was that my wife had arranged a great surprise for me. A real dolphin safari. We went with jetski's across the sea and trough the bay's to spot Dolphins. A once in a life time experience. I was stunned by this great surprise. We had a great time and did see some great dolphins. I love those animals...

Seeing those beautiful creatures in wild gives me the chills.... What a lucky folks we are, arent we...

They just swim along with the jetski, like if they wanted to play with us.
