Climbing Kamenitza peak, Pirin - Bulgaria

Climbing Kamenitza peak, Pirin - Bulgaria

September 2020 · 3 min read · Gabrovo

With some of my friends, we wanted to climb Kamenitsa peak. It is 2822 m high and is the fifth highest peak in Pirin.

A few days ago, we arrived at Tevno Lake and Kamenitza was one of the first peaks we would climb.

In the morning at the foot of the peak was beautiful. The pink clouds colored by the rising sun seductively was reflected in Tevno Lake.

According to the forecast, it was going to rain in the afternoon, so our transition to the top had to be done in the morning.

We had breakfast with the delicious mekitsi of Kaka Valya - the host of the shelter Tevno lake and some of us left to the area.

We chose the route through Malka Kamenitsa peak. Happy and confident we walked up and enjoyed the boundless beauty around us. Some of us climbed the top for the 2nd and 3rd time, and for me and the 14-year-old Boris, it was the first time.

Most of the path to Malka Kamenitsa is narrow and steep, and the slope is steep. The rocks - alluring and with more and more interesting shapes, which at times looked like huge stone crystals.

At times the trail was clearly distinguishable, but in some places, the transition started on rocks. Some of us chose to climb it to the edge.

Before climbing Malka Kamenitsa peak, we came across an extremely beautiful small section. Between two high rocks, a mountain lake mysteriously unfolded. We enjoyed the magical place and continued.

Malka Kamenica is the first peak of the Kamenica ridge, with a height of 2679 meters. The peak has the shape of a cone as most peaks are Pirin.

The slopes of the peak are very steep, descending to the Belemeto circus to the west, and to the east - to the Demirkapiiski circus.

The connection between Malka and Golyama Kamenitza is a narrow rocky edge, which we continued.

A steep climb followed, before we climbing the top.

Kamenitza peak, 2822 m high, is the highest on the Kamenica side ridge. To the west, a short ridge separates it, ending with rocky slopes known as the Kamenishka Doll. From the north, the peak is rocky and wide with a distinctly sharp peak, and under the rocks, there is a large field of moraines. This is the reason why it is called Kamenitza.

We chose to return from the west through the deep valleys of Begovitsa.

The Bulgarian flag on the trail.

The valley was extremely beautiful and attractive.

Herds of cows grazing peacefully around.

We passed through the magnificent Malokamenishki lakes, which I liked so much last year.

On the way we picked mushrooms and ate the delisious mushroom soup.  Chef - Gani.
