Mystical forest: sculpture Park of Parikala (Finland)

November 2018 · 2 min read · Mainland Finland

On the way to the Finnish city of Savonlinna in the area Parikala is a sculpture Park "Mystical forest". It is necessary to stop and move away from the road, as you find yourself in a very strange and eerie (according to my feelings) place.

All the sculptures that are in the Park, invented and created by one man - the sculptor-taught Veijo Rönkkönen. He created sculptures for 50 years. The Park features about 500 pieces of concrete sculptures that depict people in a variety of poses. Veijo Rönkkönen worked in a paper factory. He had no art education. Creating sculptures was his hobby. After his death in 2010, his house and the space of the house where these sculptures were placed turned into an open-air Museum. Throughout the Park there are paths and labyrinths, where you can walk and get to different locations.

"Welcome to the Mystical forest," this figure tells us.

All the teeth in the sculptures are real human. They say that the sculptor was supplied with them by his friends-dentists.

How about this couple?

This Is A "Yoga Room"

Can you do the same?)

It's Adam. I forgot to photograph Eva.

And here you can see a piece of the footpath, on each turn of which there are a variety of characters.

Veijo Rönkkönen had a complicated relationship with his mother and complexes about his appearance. These problems are reflected in his work.

This is his self-portrait

The Park has a lot of children's sculptural groups that are engaged in athletics or dancing.

There are also sculptures of animals. There's a kangaroo.

Three bears.

I liked that some of the sculptures were turned into flower beds. It's very original.

This place causes feelings of horror or delight.
