Hiking in the City.
The last days I spent in Salzburg. With the bright blue sky and pleasant temperatures during the day, there was a breath of spring in the air. Ideal conditions for a short hike and a bird's eye view of the city.
Wandern in der StadtDie letzten Tage verbrachte ich in Salzburg. Bei strahlend blauem Himmel und tagsüber angenehmen Temperaturen lag bereits ein Hauch von Frühling in der Luft. Ideale Bedingungen, um eine kleine Wanderung zu unternehmen und die Stadt aus der Vogelperspektive zu betrachten.
Kapuzinerberg
On these afternoon I wanted to hike to the Franziskischlössl on the Kapuzinerberg. This city 'mountain' is a wooded hill, which rises about 200 meters above the city level opposite the Mönchsberg with the Hohensalzburg Fortress.
KapuzinerbergZiel meiner nachmittäglichen Wanderung sollte das Franziskischlössl auf dem Kapuzinerberg sein. Bei diesem Stadt-'Berg' handelt es sich um einen bewaldeten Hügel, der sich rund 200 Meter über dem Stadtniveau gegenüber dem Mönchsberg mit der Festung Hohensalzburg erhebt.
The way led me from the old town over the Mozartsteg to the eastern bank of the river Salzach.

Kapuzinerkloster auf dem Imberg
Several paths open up the Imberg, as the Kapuzinerberg was formerly called. I decide to climb the Imbergstiege, which leads steeply up from Steingasse. The narrow Steingasse was the most important transport route for salt in the Middle Ages. The city of Salzburg owes not only its name and but also its considerable wealth over several centuries to the 'white gold'.
Mehrere Wege erschließen den Imberg, wie der Kapuzinerberg früher genannt wurde. Ich entscheide mich für den Anstieg über die Imbergstiege, die von der Steingasse aus steil nach oben führt. Die enge Steingasse war im Mittelalter der wichtigste Transportweg für Salz - jenes 'weiße Gold', dem die Stadt Salzburg nicht nur ihren Namen, sondern auch beträchtlichen Reichtum über mehrere Jahrhunderte hinweg verdankt.

The destination of my hike, the Franziskischlössl, is already in the shade. It was built during the Thirty Years' War as part of a fortress. Today the listed Franziskischlössl houses a tavern. In view of the setting sun, I postpone a visit to the inn until my next visit.
Das Ziel meiner Wanderung, das Franziskischlössl, liegt bereits im Schatten. Es wurde im Dreißigjährigen Krieg als Teil einer Wehranlage errichtet. Heute beherbergt das unter Denkmalschutz stehende Franziskischlössl einen Gastbetrieb. Angesichts der untergehenden Sonne verschiebe ich eine Einkehr im Gasthaus auf meinen nächsten Besuch.
