Masasa Adventure Episode: 5 "Sepoc Beach Caves"

February 2020 · 3 min read · Batangas

Welcome back to part 5 of our adventure on the Island of Marikaban in Batangas, Philippines. Our video episode today will take you and see one of the caves hidden away in an area where the mountains kiss the ocean. The Island of Markaban has a lot of places to explore and the caves are just a part of it. Some of you may feel uneasy when entering caves, while some of you embrace the adventure. If you are ready to see that cave, get your wet suit on and join the exploration of the Caves of Sepoc Beach.

As mentioned in our previous episode this location is a part of the boat tour. The cost of rental of the boat is 1,500 pesos or almost $30 USD.

The boat tour will take you to three locations:

Snorkeling in Sombrero Island

Caves of Sepoc Beach

Turtle Watching

Spending Time on the Beach

You could stay for an hour on the site depending on your boatman. But after exploring the caves there wouldn't be anything else to do. Swimming on the beach is not recommended in this location as there are a lot of rocks. But take note that the highlight of this location is the caves. We stayed for around 30 minutes took some photos and left to go to our next destination.

Things to Watch Out for

  1. The rocks are very slippery going to the cave. It is recommended to just follow the trail on the side of the beach. A rocky path but easier to walk on.
  2. During this season you would feel itchy tiny little bites once in a while. These are very small jellyfish that are harmless. I got around 2 to 3 bites which you could hardly notice.
  3. Watch out for large groups of tourists as it would be hard to get a good photo with all the people walking around. Best is to wait until you see the crowd headed back. Waiting outside the cave may take a while as some take a lot of time inside the cave.
  4. Don't bring cameras that aren't water-sealed. There were two more caves that we were unable to go to. Water is a little bit deep going there and for sure you will get your gear wet. We were unable to proceed further to see the other two caves.

I hope you enjoy the video I have shared with you today and do let me know what you think. Thanks and happy travels.
