Grilled Chicken butts at Street food market in KL

September 2019 · 4 min read · Kuala Lumpur

From Malacca, we took a bus straight to Kuala Lumpur. What a difference between two cities. KL just so huge, spread out and hectic. We're so lucky we got to stay at this super duper nice condo? Not even sure what it was exactly but it's such a good looking, fancy, convenient kind of place to stay. Anyways, it's located in Sentral Bangsar, which I believe it's somewhere pretty central (Sentral). First day we're too tired after traveling for a few hours so we decided to just walk somewhere close. Luckily found this Street food market just right around the corner. Simply exciting!

Found out later it's called 'Pasar Malam Jalan Ang Seng'. How lucky, it's open only on Friday night and we were there then! The market is not that big but pretty busy. The whole market was just full with all locals. We're probably the only foreigners there, I'm pretty sure.

We got some street snack ourselves. Guess what, there's one of the best curry puffs I have ever had. It's handmade and cooked just there in front of you! As it's freshly deep fried, it's so crispy! The stuffing also tastes great! Mashed sweet potato with a hint of some spices. Believe it or not, it costs just RM 0.50 or 0.12 USD

The price that tells you what you eat is actually 'Street Food'

Other than the puffs, there are also some other deep fried snacks **That's just how street food works. All looks so good. I think we got some but I didn't have a chance to try. Kevin was too hungry :D

I fell for the red chicken butts.

Then just the next stall, there's this guy was grilling some pretty red chicken. Not that I don't know it's coloured but it really just lured me. Especially that part of the chicken you know, the butts! Where the fat could just spread nicely in your mouth. Just hope there's noting else but that coming off it #joke

Just like in Thailand, they serve grilled chicken with sticky rice. If you haven't tried this combination, do so. It's one of the most perfect duo you could put in your mouth. Yes, the chicken butts count too.

From grilled chicken but, not moving on to another chicken shop. This is also new to me. I mean, there are deep fried chicken everywhere but never before I have seen the whole chicken deep friend and sold for RM 4 or $1. Youuuuuu, A Dollar deep fried chicken!I was like, 'Dude, you serious?'

Then we figured it out, it's more like chicken that already been taken almost all the meat out. What we saw was just the whole set of bones and a bit of meat on it. Ah, that's why they're quite little.

Either it's battered a bit too think or we're just blind. Please select wisely..

As usual, they deep fry it freshly just there. This must be so popular since they had a few pans working there at the spot. This one also pretty good with sticky rice!

It was a quick visit. That's pretty it what we got for dinner. A few cups of smoothies actually. After all the deep fried stuffs and the weather that could have really just fry us alive. Those smoothies just made our day!

Pasar Malam Jalan Ang Seng (Friday Night) was pretty interesting to walk around. See what locals really eat and how they actually do things around there. Fresh food (a lot of deep fries) and even fresh vegetables and fruits they sell there. Be sure you check it out and really, if you're lucky enough to stay here. It's sooooo nice!

Hope you enjoy this deep fried journey at KL Street food market at Sentral Bangsar.
