Look! Peruvian Seafood goodness in Lima! 🦀 🦞 🦐 🦑

2 Delicious must-try Peruvian food and not just that, I know where is a good place to go for some when you're in Barranco, laid back beach town in Lima. Well, I'm not a Peruvian food expert but when I eat something delicioso, I know it's delicioso so let's dive in!

Barranco, Lima

I have talked about Barranco a little bit where I shared a post about my favorite go-to coffee shop in town.

Barranco has so much to offer and it might actually be even a better spot to stay when visiting Lima, Peru especially for a laid-back person like myself. Beautiful beaches, a lovely town with street arts and lots of museums, coffee shops, and many cevicherias around, it’s beach town duh…

Oh, that's right, Cevicheria is a place that mainly serves ceviche, one of Peruvian food we all love. Me, me, me, I love ceviche! Do you? and hey, today we're going for one very nice one in Barranco, Lima! Let's come along this Peruvian food journey and fulfill with some delicious seafood altogether.

El Muelle

We did some research really well for what to eat and do in Barranco. A lot of people say, for ceviche, you can't pass El Muelle. They serve one of the best ceviches in Barranco.

Fun fact. In Spanish, El Muelle means 'The Dock' so hopefully, their fish and other seafood would be so fresh just like eat it right off the dock! Well, I'm going out in the ocean so let's continue with some useful foodie info :)

El Muelle is located just in the center of Barranco. Not even 5 minutes walk from the main square so that's quite handy. A chill spot with great service. Spoiler alert, they have best Chicha Morada I have tried thus far in Lima! Anyways, other dishes we ordered were delicious too so why not, eat!

View of Barranco from Chorrillo Beach where we also had a delicious and reasonably priced ceviche. Yum!!

Corn nuts everywhere!

Guess what's the complimentary appy. How do you know? Yes, it's corn nut!. Corn nuts everywhere, almost every Peruvian restaurant we have been to give you a small little bowl of corn nuts! Crispy and corny.. so corny because it's straight corn! Some are roasted and some are deep-fried. With some cold beer is good too but let's stick with Peruvian Chicha Morada this time.

2 Must-try Peruvian food and by that, I mean it...

Peruvian Ceviche de Marisco (S/ 35)

Peruvian Ceviche Fresh raw fish and cooked seafood cured in citrus juices, such as lemon or lime, and spiced with garlic, chili peppers, chopped onions, salt, and coriander. + Potato and corn nuts! Peruvian style!

From how to make this Peruvian food, you know it's not completely cooked fish, don't you? So it's best to eat at places where they would be able to find fresh fish or fresh seafood to make it a perfect plate of ceviche so, I think Barranco, Lima counts!

Their fish and seafood are just as fresh as you could find out there. So much lime ohhhh we love it! Not as limey as the one we got at the Ceviche Street stall at Surquillo Market the other day but this one is good too.

Also, look at that fancy seaweed they use to garnish too. How lovely!

Causa Rellena de atun (S/ 25)

Peruvian Causa Rellena is a mashed potato that can be layered with any number of fillings such as chicken salad and tuna salad. Served cold.

Soft and smooth mashed potato and avocado. Blend in together nicely with the tuna salad. It's sweet, sour and a bit salty. Not bad really.

Another Kevin's favorite though, honestly, it's a bit too heavy of a dish for me. Look at that gigantic mash potato we got there. It looks pretty and all but ceviche, for me, is way to go.

Both of the dishes combined for 2 people. A big white dude with a small Asian like myself was just a perfect size. Very satisfied with the Peruvian food we got. Now let's move on to one of my favorite drinks #ever!

Chicha Morada at El Muelle (S/ 15)

Chicha Morada is a beverage originated in the Andean regions of Perú made of purple corn and some fruits like pineapple juice, apple juice and lime then a bit of cinnamon.

I have been having this for a month straight at this point I'm writing this. Still don't get so bored of it. Some places make it so sweet and some make it sour-sweet and so refreshing. Chicha Morada at El Muelle, as mentioned, one of the best thus far in Lima. It's not so sweet and not so cinnamony. Also, the apple bits floating around also bring out the best of this drink.

El Muelle in Barranco was lovely!

All the Peruvian food we had, ceviche, causa rellena de atun both were delicious. The Chicha morada as mentioned again and again, one of the best thus far. The price, surely not the most inexpensive meal we have had for seafood. Though, it's more like a place that you would not get just good food but also good service... or not?

Do we need to tip in Peru?

Remember when we talked about tipping situation in Peru before that there's no such thing as a percentage of tipping here nor Peru has the tipping culture. Well, in a touristic place or a bit high class or a place with service like this, they somehow expect tips.

This price, not including tips

I honestly don't like it when waiters say that. I think it's quite rude though maybe it's actually their way of making sure they would get something out of the great service they have been giving.

With this type of place, even without such a notification, we would totally put 10% on top of whatever number is on the bill. They way the waitress said that makes it a bit awkward...

Well, if you enjoy this typoe of meal I'm sure you would love El Morocho, another epic cevicheria in Chorrillo, the next beach town just minutes walk from Barranco, Lima. Or if you're more like a street food person, here, I got you covered!
