Travel Pro Art #106: Koh Phangan Thailand! Part Five (8 photos)

November 2021 · 2 min read · Surat Thani Province

Beaches and sunsets are not the only thing fun to look at here on this beautiful little island in the Gulf of Thailand. There seems to be random murals and hidden art all over the place. You can venture out on your motor bike, spend a day going around the island, and find dozens of hidden gems like what you will see in this latest Travel Pro Art Series.

Unlike other islands in Thailand, for decades the Island of Koh Phangan has been very popular with artists, party goers, barefoot hippies, and just about anyone else interested in expanding their mind. Maybe that is why you'll find more murals of magic mushrooms on this island than maybe the rest of Thailand all together!

Before covid business owners would pay artists to come in and paint some funky stuff on their walls and that was all good! Now it seems like some artists are taking maters into their own hands and just using run down abandoned places as their new canvas on which to just have some fun while leaving their mark on what's left of the island. Sad to say about 90% of all businesses have been run down, shut down, and basically destroyed due to covid restrictions in the past year and half, so there is a lot real estate for these artist to express their creativity on.

Some of the murals on this island you can tell have been here a long long time and they are starting to fade. While others seem to have just popped up yesterday. Even though tourism is gone, there is still a strong and thriving community of the tattooed and dreadlocked living on the west coast of the island. If I didn't know better I would say it's these guys who are leaving a lasting impression on this little slice of heaven they call Koh Phangan! Now come along and lets have a closer look at some of the random art here on this enchanted little island in the Gulf of Thailand!
