Travel Pro Food Porn #17: Vietnam! Part Seven (9 Photos)

August 2020 · 3 min read · Vietnam

We are now in the land of Pho! Have you ever been to a Vietnamese restaurant where you are from? If so you probably had Pho or some spring rolls; probably both. Here in Vietnam it seems like that is all they eat. Pho Bo which is beef soup. It comes with some sides of herbs and bean sprouts, some chili sauce, some chop sticks and a spoon. Seems like every restaurant is serving it up in this country.

My first five meals were Pho upon arriving in Ho Chi Minh. Good thing is I really like the stuff. Next on the menu is these spring rolls; wrapped thin sheets of rice paper filled with rice noodles, a little lettuce and usually a shrimp. After that we move on to the Bang Mi, and that is not just what she said!

Bang Mi is a left over from the French Colonial error. Basically you can find them all over the country on little side stands where they take a small French Baguette and fill it with what is laying around...well, sometimes it just seems that way but a good one will have nice slices of roast pork, cilantro, chili, and quality pate. A not so good one will be a stale bun filled a with a hot slab of mystery meat.

Moving down the menu is frankly a whole lot of weird stuff that I tried and didn't like or I'm just not into chickens feet and organ meat. I've seen everything on the menu here from sea horse, to snake, to scorpion. The people here eat it up like an American eats a hamburger. How about a whole grilled baby chicken? That's easy to find, but not easy to put down.

All in all this "Food Porn" series from Vietnam is more like an old Ron Jeremy VHS that you found in your creepy uncle's sock drawer. Vietnam is not a foodie paradise, at least not in my book. Fortunately we found some good Japanese cuisine and some other international foods along our travels in this exciting South East Asian Country, and the photos are mixed into this collage to spice things up. Now get out your lube and box of tissues, here comes another round of Travel Pro Food Porn!
