Amazing Ecuador ( part 4 )

June 2018 · 3 min read · Mocha

Dear Steemians,

my amazing trip to Ecuador is coming to an end, but let me just show you my last leg of the trip, as I will drive two hours to the North of Canar to the pretty big city of Riobamba, that happened to be ideally located between Chimborazo ( the highest peak in the country and currently inactive volcano ) and Las Banos ( top resort, always crowded with tourists ).

While I was driving through the high ranges of Andes, I might have taken more then 200 pics of the peaks, villages and small cities, and in some parts I had the feeling I was like doing carting. The abrupt road turns looked like they will never end, but in the end we arrived in such a valley, that was just few km from the city of Riobamba.

The pic reminds me on the US Midwest!!!

Riobamba is fourth largest city in Ecuador, charming city with a lot of colonial architecture, and nowadays is a transportation hub and that makes it an ideal starting point for many mountain excursions.

There is an old train route from here to Quito, that was recently renovated, and is used by many tourists to travel the high mountains. I knew you can take a spectacular pics from the slowly driving train, but will do that by my next visit o Ecuador.

On the background you can see the snowy cap of Chimborazo, where I was going to go.

As the roads are pretty good in Ecuador and not having any big traffic, it was so easy to drive, that I was in a few moments standing right in front of the Majestic Chimborazo.

The road takes you up to the very peak, it is like 10-11 km, but it takes an hour and a half to get much closer to the very peak.Unfortunately I did not have enough time to do this, and just took few pics of Chimborazo, and had to take a U-turn in order to make it in the same day to Las Banos.

On the other side, even though is just 50 km from here, you dive into a different world, you change over the course of an hour many climate zones starting from high Mountains, then moderate climate and arriving in a true tropical forests.

Conveniently situated in a stunning valley at the base of an active volcano called Tungurahua. Just FYI no need to worry, because actually the town is far enough away from Tungurahua to be safe. People say sometimes you might be able to witness the smoke coming out from the top of the volcano...

And finally delicious Ecuadorian food, I got to like during my trip. Roasted pork, beans, cooked bananas, and the spicy dressings on the side...

To wrap up my trip, after Los Banos I actually spend few more days in the capital, but most of the pics were taken with many friends of mine, so I decided to skip the last leg of my journey.
