Summer trip to Bulgaria ( part 1 )

June 2018 · 3 min read · Haskovo

Dear Steemians, top progressive community!

Very rarely I do travel back to Bulgaria, as I am right now living in Moscow, but few days ago I arrived in my home townS, so I hope you would like the pics I posted here.

First at all some more detailed info to share with you.

Two cities Dimitrovgrad ( city where I was raised ) and Haskovo ( where I graduated from the High school ) are located in South Bulgaria, on the major road - high way, connecting Europe with Turkey. Both cities are located close to the Turkish and Greek borders, that means it is like an hour drive to get there.

My first post will be about Haskovo, area capital with a population of about 50 000 people. Bulgarian population is decreasing for the last 20 years, coming down from nearly 9 mill. to less than 7 mill. people. I know that many European countries are facing the same problem, but I think Bulgaria has a real problem, nobody knows how it can be solved, and even more, can it be solved at all...

But looking at it from a global point of view, it might look like a normal process, as there is nothing permanent, humankind develops at a very high pace, changes occur, and we need to look in the bright future, the Global future of the blockchain,
when the word " country borders" will stay only in the history books.

Monument of the Fallen in Union Wars and the City Library on the background

It is an abstract concept for me, I see it already outdated, but as per history, there were many wars waged ( between 1878 and 1944 ), revolts conducted and unity movements organized in order to make Bulgaria bigger on the world map, than it is nowadays.

The Monument is located on the Svoboda ( Freedom ) Central Square

I like the fountains, that are the source of freshness in the hot summer days. It is really hot, as the temps from the mid of May till mid September are from 30 degrees and above.

Bulgarians in the city constitute about half of the whole population. There are many Bulgarian Turks, that have been living peacefully side by side with the rest nations since the times remembering and many Bulgarian Gypsies. So I could say Haskovo is ethnically diverse city, that makes it more interesting, vibrant and culturally rich!

*Casinos are everywhere in Bulgaria, but the Black sea coast with resorts like Sunny Beach and Golden Sands are the top gambler spot!!!

Good to see that the lawns are being well cared for during the summer season, even though the water in Bulgaria is extremely expensive.
