July 2018 Β· 4 min read Β· Dimitrovgrad

Hi everybody! πŸ‘‹ πŸ‘‹ πŸ‘‹ πŸ‘‹

I am really very happy to show you some pics from my home city, where I spent more than a month this summer. 😎 😎 😎

Some first hand info:
The city is located in South Bulgaria, 80 km away from the Turkish and Greek borders, and as per the last census conducted in 2015 the population is about 40 000 people, but I would suggest that it is less. For example I do not live in Dimitrovgrad nearly all my life, but I am been counted all these years as a permanent citizen of the city?!?!

So, Dimitrovgrad is famous in Bulgaria as the first Socialist city built in the late 40-ies, what is the reason to have a Stalinist architecture popularly known as "Stalin Baroque".

Founded in 1947 as planned unification of four villages sitting on the banks of Maritsa river, Dimitrovgrad is famous in Bulgaria as the first Socialist city, what is the reason to have a predominant Stalinist architecture or a one typical for a planned city. The communist government, that was in charge of the country since 1944 till 1989, designed the town as a socialist model city and a modern industrial center. It took the name of the Bulgarian Top Communist leader Georgi Dimitrov.

"Neohim"-the chemical Plant and the main reason for existence of Dimitrovgrad.

So, there was a task before the Communist government to create a modern industrial center for Bulgaria. That is how with the help of USSR started the industrialization of Bulgaria, and the plant was built in a few months. The new opportunities served as a magnet and help attract many people from rural areas to come and settle down in the city. In these years the city was a booming one, what is hard to say about the nowadays situation.

That is my bonus pic 🌟🌟 The garden in our house. Summer time it has to be irrigated on a daily basis, and it is time consuming work, but in the end it is worthy. It is always such a great pleasure to take a nap under the shadows of the vine tree...
