My first mushroom hike to the Old Sambir District

My first mushroom hike to the Old Sambir District

October 2019 · 3 min read · Lviv Oblast

Hi friends! Yesterday I finished my story about my last hike to the mountains, but I have visited many interesting places, so I have more to share with you. I don't often go hiking in the mountains, but more often than not I find myself going somewhere in the mushroom season.

Recently, I have been posting a lot of photos (but not on TravelFeed) of mushrooms that I found in the Starosambirsky district of Lviv region. Today, I am ready to share with you the exact location of those places where I have experienced so much joy and experienced so many happy moments in search of mushrooms. This is the village of Rosokhi. Below the map I have indicated its coordinates, so anyone who wants to go mushrooms to where I am going, welcome! However, this year's mushroom season is likely to end next weekend, as temperatures will drop rapidly next week. But I am going to go mushrooming this year, not necessarily near the village of Rosokhi, probably somewhere much closer to close the mushroom season.

But back to my first visit to this forest in the Stary Sambir district. Then my wife's cousin showed me his mushroom places, he warned me in advance that we would start looking for mushrooms in total darkness and told me to bring my headlamp with me. However, I did not have such a flashlight, so I used the built-in flashlight of my smartphone, which was not very convenient. I didn't like this way of looking for mushrooms because I just didn't see mushrooms, unlike my satellites, apparently the light of my flashlight was too weak. At night I found only one mushroom. My wife's cousin knew exactly where the mushrooms were growing, so he often sought out to the touch, pushing his hand (he put on special gloves for this purpose) right through the moss. In this way, he found most of his mushrooms, unlike the rest of the hikers who relied only on their eyes.

However, I did not complain, because I brought my camera, so any mushrooms, even poisonous ones, were desirable for me, because I could take pictures of them, unlike the rest of my friends who just put only edible mushrooms in their baskets. I can't say that I found very few mushrooms during that hike, but without a doubt, it was the least of all my friends. But the impressions of us all remain equally positive, so we should go there simply to admire nature.
