MY FIRST FLIGHT EXPERIENCE

MY FIRST FLIGHT EXPERIENCE

July 2021 · 2 min read · Lagos

As African, growing up from an average home, I didn’t have the luxury of traveling by air. As a child, when I hear the sound of an aircraft in the air, I use to run outside to wave my hands, bidding the passengers safe trip while shouting at the top of my voice ‘Aeroplane!!! The only time I was privilege to see the exterior of an Aircraft was on the television screen and I do marvel about how big it looks in the hanger and why it gives only a cross-like shape or symbol when it’s high up in the sky.

I took my first flight in 2016 at the age of Twenty-two. It was a domestic flight and it was an hour forty-five minutes trip. I was super excited and good enough I got a seat by the window.

When the aircraft airborne, I couldn’t hide my feelings of super excitement; ‘wow! It’s really going up (taking off)!!! I was practically laughing but lucky for me, the couple sitting next to me were older and  deep religious people that like to mind their business and hence, they didn’t take note of my hyper feelings.

I was watching the cloud with all my attention that the crew had to tap my shoulder for my snacks and I was surprised like Oh My God!  you guys are even sharing food! I focused back to watching the cloud; next thing , I noticed everyone had a tray to put their snacks except me! I quickly called the attention of the Host to ask him why he didn’t give me any tray, after all we paid the same money. The cute guy in charge smile at me and pressed a button right at my front and here was my tray. I was supper marveled and happy at the magic.  In his mind, “this is a funky newbie” but who cares!! I’m having the best time of my life.

I was praying for the flight to take longer because I didn’t want the experience to end so fast. But we eventually landed and I didn’t remember to take pictures. it was a beautiful experience.
