Reached the end of the Orio breakwater, Guipuzcoa, Basque Country 🌊🌊

November 2022 · 2 min read · Autonomous Community of the Basque Country

As I mentioned in my previous post I was walking though the Orio promenade and estuary (whole place incorporated into the Red Natura 2000 -a network of biodiversity conservation areas in the European Union-), and heading until the end of the breakwater, access to which is prohibited to pedestrians, as indicated by a sign.

Access is prohibited but I will ignore the sign.

Despite this, I climbed onto the breakwater and continued walking to the furthest point to appreciate a different perspective of Kukuarri peak and Antilla beach.

You have to be careful, both when going up and down the breakwater, as well as when walking through it, since there are many gaps between the different stone blocks and you could get hurt.

You have to watch where you step.

I sit down to go down since you have to support your foot on rocks with non-uniform relief.

The place is, of course, a meeting place for fishermen.

Near this fisherman spot there is a school of fish of more than half a meter long.

I ask this fisherman if he has had any luck fishing and he tells me that no way.
