We Have A Dream: A Steemit Coworking Network Around The World

February 2018 · 3 min read

When we started traveling seven years ago, the term "Travel Blogger" was barely born and "Digital Nomads" was unheard of. I hadn't read a single travel blog in my life.

But things changed and the Digital Nomad movement is now in full swing. Obviously, we think it's incredible that you can make a living while seeing the world. But with this surge in popularity comes the inevitable undercurrent: people trying to make money off this lifestyle. (I'm looking at you, co-working places).

We had a great experience at a co-working space in Saigon, and we love the idea of having a quiet place to work from, with fast internet, as well as the chance to connect with like-minded people. But there are always people looking to take advantage of "new phenomenons" like Digital Nomadism. Lisbon is one of the highest-rated cities for Digital Nomads, and co-working places are sprouting up in every corner. That's not bad in itself, but the Airbnb effect is sneaking in, and prices are going up. You can now pay €15 per day for a spot in an open room, sitting on a bench, freezing cold, listening to the owner talk about how they're going to open up a new location because of the high demand. Sorry, I'd rather buy six drinks and work from a cozy cafe.

Now let me take you to Valencia . This is our home when we're not traveling. We have an apartment there which has one office, but the other working spot is in the living room. Not bad, but our layout is pretty open. So when I'm cooking it can be annoying to Mike, whose "office" is right there. Or when I'm still working and Mike wants to play video games ... well you get the point.

Before we went to Lisbon, we actually looked at a couple of spaces for rent. The idea would be to use it as our second office, and also a gallery to showcase my photography. But since we're not in Valencia all that often, it's hardly economical, and so we put the idea on ice.

You might know that we recently started Travelfeed with @jpphotography, @rimicane and @adonisabril. And this made us realize how many Travel Bloggers and Digital Nomads there are on Steemit.

That led to the idea of maybe opening up a coworking place for the Travel Bloggers and Digital Nomads of Steemit. More like a non-profit community center which runs on its own, with the contributions of its members.

And then I was thinking, why not have an entire network of Steemit centers around the world? It should be absolutely possible, especially considering the spirit of Steemit users.

We're arriving back in Valencia tomorrow and will continue thinking about this and looking into it. What are you thoughts? Would this be something you're interested in?
