The Benefit of Lockdown.... Nature walks!

The Benefit of Lockdown.... Nature walks!

May 2020 · 3 min read · Eindhoven

I am sure a lot of people are not dealing too well with this whole lockdown/quarantine situation to say for the least. Stats have been showing that the amount of domestic violence and people planning to get a divorce afterwards are through the roof...And it is understandable in that way. Usually the safety net of people is outside the home where they can show their signals of violence. And ofcourse homeschooling, working and living together with way too many people which normally not the case with maybe the uncertainty of potential loss of jobs can trigger more than we all want unfortunately.

Lets say that I am more than blessed that we have a stable home situation with two jobs, space and lots of love here in the house that leaves enough room for some outdoor time. Because lockdown in Holland still means getting to walk around in nature luckily!

It is discouraged to all go to the same areas for outdoor time. We have some nice lakes here in the neighborhood which are locked off which I don't entirely understand but I get the gist. Government wants people to stay home as much as they can. Because going somewhere also means getting gas, getting maintainance on cars and all kinds of other stuff, which means human contact which means more chance of spreading. Also on the hiking routes there are option that people might have to pass each other not in enough distance. Chance of spread.

But wouldn't it be an option to put up some signs that everyone walks te same round so the chance of passing decreases and people still get some nature fix. I know nature here close to the city is a little bit more dofficult to find than on the country side and you country people are thinking I am entirely mad hahahah.

So I have moved recently and I am still getting to know the area around here, which is absolutely stunning at some points! Also having a dog with a ton of energy really motivates to go for longer walks than what you would normally do when you are just going for a little lap. This animal needs hours, and that is what we give him to also clear out mind for a bit. And the coolest thing is that it is one big new show to me. I never knew the area of Noord Brabant was so beautiful, only when you take a closer look that is when you find this out!

If there is no traveltime, you got to travel around the house and discover!

Even the canal looks super appealing to go swimming in in the summer. With the dog on my side who is drawn to water this was a bit of a liability for him jumping in and dragging his ass out of the water but he decided to listen better than I had expected. On these canals also boats pass with cargo on there, and when I see one of those my minds starts drifting off with maybe one day travelling with one of these boats around the country on a beautiful springday like these ones.
