Follow me on my Journey! (Experiences & Locations)

March 2018 · 8 min read

Saint Augustine once said:

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

Today I want to share with you some of my favorite pages of that book.

I want to talk about destinations that are dear to me. At first glance the travel locations I'm gonna present may not seem extraordinary or special to most of you. But after I show you my point of view of my journeys, you will understand the fascination I have for those cities.

I'm a 17 years old student from Germany. Traveling around the globe is not an option for me yet (too expensive) but it's alright because I have learned to make the best out of every single journey I'm on, no matter how short it is. I hope I can bring you closer to not only my home country but also other european cities I have become fond of. Maybe my post will inspire some of you to add more destinations to your bucket list. Maybe my post doesn't cover enough aspects and things the locations have to offer. Either way I would love to read your outlook on the following travel destinations in the comments.

This is my entry for the Sndbox Summercamp Quest 1 | 1/3

Here you can see all locations I have been to so far. Not so many, I know! But quality over quantity, am I right?! The numbers stand for the order of the locations that I´m going to discuss today.

Here are my impressions!

Travelling through Germany

1. Kelheim, Bavaria

I visited Kelheim almost two years ago and it was my first experience travelling solo. Kelheim may be a small city with only about 17.000 habitants but what stands out is not the population or the are, but the richness of its nature.
The river Donau flows through the city, so I took the chance to go on a boat tour during my trip. First off, let me show you the awesome view we had on that boat tour:

Look at the nature! So pure and untouched.

2. Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia

I simply love this city. No explanation needed; photos speak more than a 1000 words:

Cologne by day

Cologne by night

I have already been to Cologne a couple of times as a good friend of mine lives there. So I have always have an excuse to visit the beautiful city. But another reason why I visit the city frequently is because 2 years ago I started to go to concerts:

at a Lorde (left) and Bry (right) concert.

Two years ago I was still very shy and introverted. But when I first started travelling and going to concerts something shifted. Whenever I travel I become at home and when I'm at a concert experiencing the awesome atmosphere with the crowd I become a different person - a new, more confident me. It has shaped me in a positive way and that is also probably the reason why I'm so connected to this city.

Travelling abroad

3. Prague, Czech Republic

I'm kinda in love with Prague, don't ask me why. This was my first time travelling abroad. The buildings were really pretty and the view from the top is breathtaking. It's just 3 hours with the bus from Nuremberg to Prague and tickets are pretty cheap. I've already been to Prague twice. The first time for only one night and the second time for two.
First off, i want to show you the view on Prague from the Castle of Prague:

I really like the following picture. It kinda looks... aestethic? Tell me what you think about the picture in the comment section!

So that's all for now from this beautiful city. I think a lot of people have been in Prague before, are you one of them?

4. Norwich, Cromer, England

Oh well, this is my longest and most impressive travel experience - you're asking why? Because I stayed there for 21 days and worked there as a child carer in a kindergarden. It was like a project from the EU called Erasmus+ (This is the link for the project in the UK). As i'm currently doing an apprenticeship as a child carer, I had the chance to work in England without paying anything. Oh gosh, this was one of the best experiences in my entire life, I learned so much and improved my english skills so much. It also boosted my self-confidence! On the weekends I usually travelled around Norwich. It's a really lovely city and i had an amazing time!

Every person i met in england kept on using the word "lovely", so I made a habit out of it as well. Look at this lovely picture:

Ok. You can't tell me that this shop isn't like uber cute! I photographed this while i was walking and now I could cry that I did not go inside...I need to buy these plushes! But this is a reason for a second visit to Norwich, am I right?!

I just love nature and old buildings. So this is the perfect set of pictures! We went on a short boat tour on a river, I really enjoyed it. Also, weeping willow trees are my favorite!...Someday, when I own a small house, I want one next to my little pond!

Ok this picture has a lot of meaning to me. Here you can see the ocean. There's nothing really special about it. Nothing extraordinary. But that was the very first time i ever saw and stood by the sea, or ocean for that matter. I've never been to the shore. I was so happy at this moment and enjoyed every breath i took. The ocean is so endless when you stand right there. It's a little bit scary, you don't know what's out there but at the same time it's beautiful, just indescribable. I've been there for about 3 hours i think and all the time when all the other students were laying down on their towels I was standing in front of the ocean, running in and out of the ocean and just thought about the world. You see? There can be a big story behind any inconspicuous picture.

I really enjoyed my time there and I learned so many new things! I really want to do more longe-time traveling and one day I would like to emigrate.

5. Malta

Last but not least there is Malta. A beautiful tiny Island in the mediterranean sea. Wow, this stay was just too good to be true.
We flew from Nuremberg to Zurich and from there to Malta. This was my second time on an airplane (first time on my flight to Norwich) and we had an amaaaaaazing view! You can see it in my Malta videos :)

Better to see something once than hear about it a thousand times

Although England was my 'biggest' travel experience, malta was the best one. I didn't feel like a tourist or a foreigner, more like a local who enjoys the incredible nature there. Me and my boy planned this trip two years...Why two years? Because I had no money, I've sold almost eveything I owned, even my harry potter lego castle (it was a lot of money worth, haha) so I could chase my dream of seeing a beautiful beach. To see cliffs and stars all night because there are almost no clouds. To meet new people and try new food. And my dream came true on this trip. Every day we walked so long through nature and we swam for hours. Everyday we visited another Beach and stayed there until the sunset.

I really want to travel more around the world. I have some locations where i really want to go, but I take everything I can afford, because every place on this planet can be a beautiful place when you're with the right person or if you go for the right mentality.

Travelling has really moved me further in life and changed me fundamentally. I am not a couch potato anymore, I go out and meet new people, I have a more positive attitude to life and I am simply more motivated to change something.

Thats why i wan't to join @sndbox, to get more opportunities and reach more people, i want to tell my story and motivate people to do the same.

I want to make for some of these locations an extra post so I didn't go too deep with every destination. Here are two travel posts from me which are already in english:

Beautiful holidays in Malta - Photography

My Malta Post was not really good, I was new and didn't understood a lot of steemit. But I would say I'm getting better and better! I'll write a detailed post soon.

6. My trip to the Neuschwanstein Castle + Winter landscape

This is a good example, I think, of one of my travel posts. I want to make more of them in this direction. I hope you'll like it!

I hope you liked it, thanks for reading!
