In August 2017, my pal @danielw and I have spent 8 days in the saddle, traveling the total of 541 km while exploring the wonderful Dalmatia region. The town, briefly described below, is only one of the amazing destinations we have managed to visit during our tour.

Our vision

We are working hard on the knowledge base for travelers from all around the world (especially bikers). We will be delivering content that is both informative and entertaining. That includes (but is not limited to) handy tips on: how to service your bike and what tools to use, what to take with you on your trip, how to find free/cheap accommodation and washing facilities, what to eat during the trip to keep up the pace, where to cross country borders etc.

We are committed to making this our full time jobs and since we are passionate about it, we believe we can build a strong community behind our vision.

If you like to find out more and support us in our mission, you can go to our projects page on Fundition.io and/or check the latest project update.

Tučepi

Tučepi is a small town located in Makarska Riviera that boasts its beautiful views on the Adriatic Sea, nearby Hvar and Brač islands and Biokovo mountain range. It is situated only about 5 km southeast from Makarska, which makes it a great destination for those who would like to avoid large crowds and save some cash, while having an opportunity to still explore that popular touristy town.

Directions

Take the state road D8 south/north from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and drive until you reach approximately 470th km of the aforementioned road. To get to the beach, take the Donij ratac road, which then opens out into Kraj road.

Camping

Unfortunately there is no campsites in Tučepi itself. The nearest one is located at Kamp Sutikla, Podgora, approximately 5 km south from Tučepi. The good news is that most of the upper part of Tučepi is inhabited and the locals are really friendly. When asked politely, they will let you pitch your tent for free somewhere on the land they own.

The olive trees seen on the pictures above kept us cool during the sunrise.

Important fact: Wild camping in Croatia is strictly forbidden so keep that in mind when you are looking for a camping spot. You could be fined up to 3000 HRK (about $470)!

Activities

Tučepi, despite being a small town with only 1,763 inhabitants, is a place where you can definitely have a great deal of fun. The activities include: parasailing, diving and canoeing. If you decide to do some cycling in the area, you must be prepared for both extreme ascent and descent. Be very careful when descending, as you might easily melt your brake shoes.

History of Tučepi

Tučepi settlement dates back nearly 4000 years when an Indo-European tribe - the Illyrians made their first attempts to resettle the area.

The local folk legend has it, that the sixteenth Doge of Venice Pietri I Candiano is burried here.
