Impressions from my first 15km walk through ASTANA 🇰🇿 [EN/DE]

Good morning again from Astana! As announced yesterday, I can present you the first impressions of the city today. My anger about the cold weather has now vanished, but I had to be annoyed again, but more about that later! Warmly wrapped, in the warmest clothes that I have, I started walking to the new government district, where all main sights are located.

Nochmals Guten Morgen aus Astana! Wie gestern angekündigt, kann ich euch heute die ersten Eindrücke der Stadt präsentieren. Mein Ärger über das kalte Wetter ist mittlerweile verflogen, allerdings musste ich mich erneut ärgern, aber dazu später mehr! Warm eingepackt, in die wärmste Kleidung, die ich dabei habe, ging es erstmal zu Fuß in Richtung des neuen Regierungsviertels, in dem sich alle Hauptsehenswürdigkeiten befinden.

First I passed many construction sites. Astana is a very young city, which was not built until the Soviet era. Modern Astana was not built until 1998, when the city became the capital of Kazakhstan. Much is still under construction and a lot was probably built under too much time pressure, which of course has an effect on the quality.

Erstmal ging es an vielen Baustellen vorbei. Astana ist eine sehr junge Stadt, die erst zur Sowjetzeit entstand. Das moderne Astana entstand erst ab 1998, als die Stadt Kasachstans Hauptstadt wurde. Vieles ist noch immer im Bau und einiges wurde wohl unter zu viel Zeitdruck gebaut, was sich natürlich auf die Qualität auswirkt.

My first stop was the "Nur Astana Mosque" - this impressive, shining white building is the largest mosque in Kazakhstan.

Mein erster Stop war die "Nur Astana Moschee“ - dieser beeindruckende, leuchtend weiße Bau ist die größte Moschee Kasachstans.

Afterwards I went directly to the main boulevard. The most famous buildings of Astana are all located along an approx. 4km long main axis. Here everything is really aligned to the centimetre, along this axis. If you're into symmetry, you'll love Astana!

Danach ging es direkt auf den Hauptboulevard. Die berühmtesten Gebäude Astanas befinden sich alle entlang einer ca. 4km langen Hauptachse. Hier ist alles wirklich auf den Zentimeter genau, entlang dieser Achse ausgerichtet. Wer auf Symmetrie steht, wird Astana lieben!

The distances are really not to be underestimated. On the map everything looks very compact, as if one could explore it comfortably on foot, but in reality it takes ages to get from one place of interest to the next. The capital of Kazakhstan is about twice as spacious as the most spacious city that you can imagine 😉

Die Entfernungen sind wirklich nicht zu unterschätzen. Auf der Karte sieht alles sehr kompakt aus, als wenn man es gemütlich zu Fuß erkunden könnte, doch in Wirklichkeit dauert es Ewigkeiten, bis man von einer Sehenswürdigkeit zur nächsten gelangt. Die kasachische Hauptstadt ist ungefähr doppelt so weitläufig, wie die weitläufigste Stadt, die man sich vorstellen kann 😉

The "Bayterek Tower" is located approximately in the middle of the main boulevard and is the city's landmark. You can also take a lift up to the top, but I didn't, because you can only take pictures through gold-plated windows.

Der "Bayterek Tower“ liegt ungefähr in der Mitte des Hauptboulevards und ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Man kann auch mit einem Lift nach oben fahren, was ich jedoch nich tat, da man nur durch vergoldete Scheiben fotografieren kann.

The highlights at the eastern end of the main axis are the well guarded presidential palace and the unique modern concert hall. Directly behind it is the river "Ischim", which runs through the city.

Die Highlights am östlichen Ende der Hauptachse sind der gut bewachte Präsidentenpalast und die einzigartige, moderne Konzerthalle. Direkt dahinter befindet sich der Fluss „Ischim“, der die Stadt durchzieht.

Other interesting sights, such as this pyramid, are on the other bank of the river. Unfortunately, the obligatory pedestrian bridge is missing here. It's a pity, because otherwise you can only reach the other side by a detour of several kilometres.

Weitere interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie diese Pyramide, befinden sich am anderen Ufer des Flusses. Leider fehlt hier jedoch die obligate Fußgängerbrücke. Sehr schade, da man sonst nur über einen kilometerlangen Umweg, die andere Seite erreichen kann.

After the many kilometers on foot, I refreshed myself at lunch in this ultra-modern shopping center with a cosy food court.

Nach den vielen Kilometern Fußmarsch, stärkte ich mich erstmal beim Mittagessen in diesem hochmodernen Shopping Center mit gemütlichem Food Court.

At the western end of the main boulevard there are two major highlights. The officially largest tent in the world is located there. The "Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center" was designed by the British architect Norman Foster and is very impressive both from the inside and the outside.

Am westlichen Ende des Hauptboulevards gibt es zwei absolute Highlights. Hier befindet sich das offiziell größte Zelt der Welt. Das "Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center" wurde vom britischen Architekten, Norman Foster entworfen und ist sowohl von innen, als auch von außen, sehr beeindruckend.

The second highlight is the huge white opera house. At the latest when I arrived here, I was wondering if I was actually in full possession of my mental powers when I only planned two days for Astana. With this abundance of unique buildings, I could have easily spent a week with my photography. I realize that I will have to slow down my travel speed a bit in the future. From now on I want to take at least one week time for every big city. I made this decision yesterday, but I'm still annoyed that tomorrow I'm going on to Almaty already.

Das zweite Highlight ist das riesige, weiße Opernhaus. Spätestens als ich hier angekommen war, frage ich mich, ob ich eigentlich in Vollbesitz meiner geistigen Kräfte war, als ich nur zwei Tage für Astana einplante. Bei dieser Fülle an einzigartigen Bauwerken, hätte ich mich locker eine Woche lang fotografisch austoben können. Ich merke, dass ich mein Reisetempo zukünftig etwas drosseln muss. Ich möchte mir ab sofort für jede große Stadt zumindest eine Woche Zeit nehmen. Diesen Entschluss habe ich gestern gefasst, aber ich ärgere mich noch immer, dass es morgen schon weiter geht, nach Almaty.

Well, now I'm going to continue my city tour. There is still a lot to see and tomorrow morning I will already continue to the south of the country, from where you can expect my next update. See ya! 😊
