In August 2017, my pal @danielw and I have spent 8 days in the saddle, traveling the total of 541 km while exploring the wonderful Dalmatia region. The location, briefly described below, is only one of the amazing destinations we have managed to visit during our tour.

Our vision

We are working hard on the knowledge base for travelers from all around the world (especially bikers). We will be delivering content that is both informative and entertaining. That includes (but is not limited to) handy tips on: how to service your bike and what tools to use, what to take with you on your trip, how to find free/cheap accommodation and washing facilities, what to eat during the trip to keep up the pace, where to cross country borders etc.

We are committed to making this our full time jobs and since we are passionate about it, we believe we can build a strong community behind our vision.

If you like to find out more and support us in our mission, you can go to our projects page on Fundition.io and/or check the latest project update.

Ušće Neretve

Ušće Neretve, Ploče is located where the Neretve river meets the Adriatic Sea. The difference in density between the sweet and the salty water causes the denser and warmer seawater to fall away to the bottom, while the cold water from the river stays on top.

Ušće Neretve Beach

Ušće Neretve sandy beach is probably the only beach in Croatia (at least the only one I know about) that isn't made of rocks. Due to daily thermal winds and a shallow marine water environment which exists between the shore and the deeper water, every year Ušće Neretve attracts kitesurfers from all around the world. In the matter of fact, it is called by many the kitesurfing place of Croatia.

Directions

Take the state road D8 south/north from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and drive until you reach the Neretve river (Rogotinski most). Next, drive down from the bridge and continue straight along the river for about 500 meters.

Camping

A free campsite is located next to the beach (the area highlighted below). The toilets and shower facilities are provided outside, free of charge. The nearest power supply is available at the beach bar (generated from an aggregate).

Unlike any other camping in Croatia, this one is dominated by locals which makes it a great deal for those who would like blend in with the culture.

Activities

As mentioned earlier, the top activity in Ušće is kitesurfing. There is a sports club which is ran by the local community and offers kitesurfing lessons for complete beginners and water activities enthusiasts. Besides kitesurfing, Ušće is known for hosting an independent club music festival, organized every summer.

Food & Drink

The beach bar offers a large variety of hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages like beer and rakia. They do not serve any food though, there are however several restaurants in the area that offer a free delivery right to the beach.
